NIT Championship: #1 Ohio State 92, #2 UMass 85 (final)

After all of the frustration this year, it was truly special to watch these guys put it all together in the end. I would have been so easy for them to pack it in for the year after losing to Minny and scUM. I'm quite proud of these Buckeyes for never giving up.

Congrats Bucks! Thanks seniors...

Oh come let's sing Ohio's praise
And songs to Alma Mater raise
While our hearts rebounding thrill
With joy which death alone can still
Summer's heat or winter's cold
The seasons pass the years will roll
Time and change will surely (truly) show
How firm thy friendship ... OHIO!

These jolly days of priceless worth
By far the gladdest days on earth
Soon will pass and we not know
How dearly we love Ohio
We should strive to keep thy name
Of fair repute and spotless fame
So in college halls well grow
And love thee better ... OHIO!

Though age may dim our mem'ry's store
We'll think of happy days of yore
True to friend and frank to foe
As sturdy sons of Ohio
If on seas of care we roll
Neath blackened sky or barren shoal
Thoughts of thee bid darkness go
Dear Alma Mater...OHIO!

Wow...that was a fun game to watch. Great tournament run by the good guys!

Turner has flashes of brilliance, but still needs to cut down on the turnovers. But his confidence is soaring.

Lauderdale...wow...I really like this kid (can you call a dude that big a kid?)

Butler and Hunter and Twigs...so nice to see them finish their careers on a high note.

KK is very athletic and talented for a big man. He has an impressive skill set. I sure hope he stays another year.

KK is so easily the MVP. What a game by the whole team.

I was just surprised we didn't see Diebs do.. Well, anything.

Great game, great win, they made me proud today.

I hope to god KK stays. I will be as confident about next years basketball title as I am for the football at that point.

Now that Ohio State has won the NIT, I can say this without jinxing it....

If I learned one thing from this tourney it's that Ohio State belonged in the other tourney. No, I don't think this team would have ended up in the Final 4 in the NCAA, but - with the exception of tonights game - the Buckeyes proved to be far and away better than each team they played. Very happy to see them play like they wanted it. Momentum for 2008-09!
Second that emotion. That RPI ranking stuff really means something it seems.

Truly everybody on this team has room to make strides and bounds over the offseason. ET needs to work on his handles and on stopping TO's. Diebs back to form, Dallas should probably try and develop an offensive game as does Lighty and PJ. KK I think if he stays still needs to work on his back to the basket game just so if he's in and BJ is sitting he can fill the hole. I see great things for the near future for this team and parallels to the football team.

NEW YORK?In a locker room outburst equal parts joy and angst, Jamar Butler finally dropped the charade Ohio State had been playing for nearly three weeks and revealed its main motivating factor for a roughshod run through the NIT.

"This is what happens when you put an NCAA tournament team in the NIT," Butler yelled, surrounded by his teammates after beating Massachusetts 92-85 in the title game Thursday night. "Write that down and send that to the committee.":oh:
