Nico Iamaleava (QB Tennessee, bad poker player, transfer to UCLA)

Yeah, apparently the boosters were ALL over this kid and wanted to pull out all the stops to land him. My buddy's daughter helps with their recruiting department, and apparently they begged Peyton to come back and meet with the kid and his family. And he even allowed him in the "Manning room" at Neyland. Apparently Peyton has his own customized suite in Neyland that only he is allowed to let people have access to, and giving Nico and his family access was a MASSIVE deal, because there aren't any other recruits who have been known to have ever gotten a tour of this place... Welp
Now that I know he screwed over Manning I am totally okay with everything. I still will turn away from every stupid Manning commercial out there, but will sleep better knowing this.

Jeez, imagine what the school would have done for Manning if he'd actually won a championship or Heisman.

It's almost like indulging every demanding person's every whim only teaches them to demand more from you.

Hell, I think this is a textbook for one of UT's grad programs, isn't it?

This. UT needs to take a grown up look in the mirror and look at what they did to end up in this spot as well.

Super helicopter dad and his entitled kid over played their hand. That is pretty straightforward actually. It couldn't have anything to do with your recruiting/NIL/alumni machine throwing money around like a drunken sailor could it?

I was incredibly surprised by his poor performance against Ohio State, given all the hype in his recruiting. That play doesn't even get you in line to sniff Will Howard's jock.

My reading of the inflated demand is a bit of desperation that he might be exposed big time next year and watch that pro career dream start leaking air and sliding downward.

This may or may not be true of this guy, but there will be a class of player who take the money now and never make the pros.
Which is why it’s smart to do no matter the optics for angry old guys who feel like it’s “ruining the sport”.

Tomorrow is promised to no man. Take the money today.

I see it as a When Keeping it Real Goes Wrong episode. Team Nico felt the fervor of players squeezing in the last non-regulated NIL deals and felt like they were leaving cash on the table by not playing hard ball. But Team Nico was never told "No" before and decided to prove a point even though they had no backup dance partner lined up.

I really hope he had an interested team that backs out now due to how he handled his business and public backlash.
