Nick Saban (ex-HC Alabama Crimson Tide)

In 1999 Saban walked away from 700K and certain job security at MSU to take on a LSU program that had been awful to middling with brief stints of better than average for decades. He took the risk because he saw fertile recruiting ground and an offer that doubled his salary (1.2m - 1.5m/per for 5 years). If Alabama pays him 5-6 and Texas would seriously go 10-12, he'll trade up again.

"Remember, all us coaches, we're all phys-ed majors. There's a lot of people who can do what we do, and we know it, so it makes us insecure. When you get an opportunity, you take it."

And you don't think Alabama would match whatever Texas offers?

Have you ever been to East Lansing? I live in Toledo now and that action would make me second guess his first move. So yes move and double my salary. As far as Tuscaloosa to Austin, no hesitation to go to Austin. But since this is more than about cities, the hassle of moving from a very rabid fanbase to a rabid fanbase is not worth it since he has plenty of money and properties. Unless the elf is so full of pride, he's staying put.

Alabama could match what Texas offers, but that's not necessarily what is the driving force here.

Going to Texas and returning that program to NC caliber contention might be more attractive (and the money would be nice no doubt) than going through a rebuild in Alabama. Hell look at how that fanbase reacted to the loss to Auburn. That's a pressure cooker that will explode one day.

I didn't say it was - although I don't remember any national stories where knuckleheads were pointing out where Tom Herman's or Pitt Brown's twitter accounts were for the social media mob to attack them over...
I didn't say that you did, but if you think for two seconds that that same sort of shit wouldn't happened amongst some Ohio State "faithful" if UFM gets us three national title in the next four years I have a bridge to sell you...

It's easy to criticize Saban as a "mercenary." Few of us will ever know what it's like to have suitors lining up to double our salaries.

And if any of you say you'd turn it down for some faux loyalty I'd be the first in line to call you a fool.

While I usually say this when people call someone a slut-claiming moral high ground they'll ever have to defend-it applies here, too: Never confuse morals with a lack of opportunity.

being from Louisana, I've congregated with every single SEC fan base (except Mizzou) multiple times.

Auburn fans are typically the biggest assholes
Florida fans are almost all douchebags.
Georgia fans are manic depressive, but for the most part good people.
Ole Piss fans are snobs with absolutely no reason to be snobs.
A&M fans are a really strange cult
Miss. St. fans are uneducated backwoods hicks, but they know they're uneducated backwoods hicks, so it's all good.
Arkansas fans picked the right mascot.
USCe fans are loyal to their team, but seem to accept they'll never me anything more than they currently are.
LSU fans are dunk, rowdy coonasses who will feed you and give you alcohol immediately after they curse you.

and then there's bama.
They absolutely have cornered the market on being a completely delusional prick who has no concept of anything outside of Tuscaloosa (or more specifically, Bryant-Denny Stadium).

Must you constantly see the SEC through scarlet-colored glasses? :gagnam:
