They aren't going to make an offer for Saban that Alabama won't match. How much money each school has is pretty irrelevant, because they're both loaded.

Unless Texas gives Saban the billion dollars worth of gold, he isn't leaving Alabama. Nobody is going to make an offer unreasonable enough for Alabama to not match.

I wouldn't say that Alabama is loaded. They actually are a pretty poor university for a state flagship; whereas Texas--due to their longstanding oil rights--is the wealthiest public university in the country.

Alabama's athletic department, however, is rich relative to almost everyone else and the gap between they and Texas in this regard is not so large that they can't and won't match anything Texas puts on the table.

Texas is a great university with a wealthy and profitable athletic department attached. Alabama is a great football program, period. Their priorities are very different as institutions.

What Alabama lacks by comparison in overall funds they would make up for by lack of scruples. Texas has more money to spend, but they'd reach their limit while Alabama wouldn't even set one.

saying Texas COULD never outspend Alabama is quite a bit different than saying Texas WOULD never outspend Alabama.

can't =/= won't.
