Nick Saban (ex-HC Alabama Crimson Tide)

Mack Brown is probably on the proverbial hot seat, especially after a fiasco against OU and I think Texas is going to have an opening at the end of this year. Do you guys think that they might make a play for Saban? If Texas offers Saban, it would be a very lucrative offer, especially with UT being the only major school in Texas. They'd have all the recruits' attention immediately. I don't have any insight on this. What do you guys think?
Saban? No way.

If I'm a West Virginia fan I'm already putting together my candidate list, because Holgorsen is as good as gone if the UT job opens. Knows Big XII and would clean house recruiting Texas.

Alabama will make him Governor King Grand Wizard in Chief and pay him in gold bricks and blue-eyed virgins before letting him go anywhere but the NFL.

Apart from that, it's Tuscaloosa and the SEC. He has free reign to do whatever the fuck he wants and doesn't have to pander to the yokels by going after Texas kids.

This... Mack Is a CEO type... Saban doesn't strike me as the glad handing type... besides Saban hates losing.

Saban ain't going anywhere until he retires.
not even the NFL.

he's scratched that itch, and really hated it.

at Bama, he is the top dog. period.
he answers to nobody, and everybody answers to him.
that just ain't the case in the NFL where not even the players ever fully buy in to a coach.

so he's staying in college.

Texas has the biggest dick when it comes to TV execs and merchandise sales, etc. but when it comes to coaching jobs, Bama probably swings the biggest rod.

  • Bama fans ADORE their coach, no matter who he is (yeah they even worshiped Shula for a while).
  • He already has his own statue on campus.
  • has more stroke in state than the governor.
  • the media fears him so they give him what he wants.
  • He's in the SEC which has it's own built in advantages in the current system.
  • his 2 biggest rivals (Auburn and Tennessee) will never be anywhere near as big as Bama, unlike Texas where Oklahoma is close to being their equal.
  • Bama boosters will match any $ amount Texas will throw at him.

it's like saying that Cincinnati, Ohio University, Toledo and Miami would disagree that Ohio State is the only major university in Ohio. :slappy:

Don't forget Bowling Green and Akron. They all have FBS (I-A) teams and therefore are, by default, major universities, despite not being nowhere near as "major" as Ohio State...

Saban won't leave Alabama. Texas can offer a lot of money, but there is still a limit. They won't offer him $25M/year and even if they went as high as $10M, Bamtards would match it in a second. Any slight gains in recruiting potential are more than offset by not being able to oversign.

In all other areas, Texas can't compete with Alabama in the eyes of a guy like Saban. It would be like asking if Calipari would leave Kentucky for Indiana. There's nothing that he could do at IU that he can't do at KY, and there are plenty of things that he can do at KY that IU wouldn't allow.

He's top dog at a university and state that only care about football. Bama will match anything that Texas would be willing to offer.

On a semi-related note, one of my WVU friends already is ready to show Big Ern the door after this season and wants Satan to come back home to WVU after he has nothing left to prove after winning back-to-back MNCs at Bama.

He's not completely crazy, he realizes this is a total pipe dream (I think).

Texas A&M, is ranked higher than Texas in football and recruiting. They also beat Texas in 2010. Just saying, they are much more competition to Texas than any other Ohio school is to Ohio State.

Texas wouldnt have to play Texas A&M, but they still have to battle for recruits in the state. 9-10 of TAMU's top recruits come from in-state. Might not be much competition for long though, if the SEC crushes TAMU yearly lol.

As most have said, I cant imagine why Saban would leave Bama.

Dont think Texas could even get Muschamp back at this point.
