Nick Saban (ex-HC Alabama Crimson Tide)

WR T.J. Simmons transferring from Alabama to West Virginia

A former Miami Hurricane wasn’t the only Power Five transfer West Virginia landed over the weekend.

On his personal Twitter account Sunday, T.J. Simmons surprised many by announcing that he would be transferring from Alabama. Not only that, but the wide receiver announced his new college football home — West Virginia.

A three-star member of the Crimson Tide’s 2016 recruiting class, Simmons was rated as the No. 58 receiver in the country and the No. 9 player at any position in the state of Alabama. While he played in 12 games as a true freshman, mainly on special teams, he caught six passes for 82 yards and a touchdown in this year’s spring game.

Meanwhile, In Tuscaloosa, Simmons has joined linebacker Shawn Jennings and O.J. Smith as transfers away from UA in the last month. As 247Sports.com noted, that trio of transfers gets the Tide down to 86 scholarship players, one above the 85-man limit.

Just sayin': All teams have some transfers; however, I just wonder if these were player initiated or Saban initiated.

He's now 0-7 against Auburn teams that have 9 wins or more---0-3 at LSU & 0-4 @ Alabama
Saban is a great coach, there's no disputing that. But he's been the beneficiary of beating up on a very watered-down SEC. Of course, much of that is because he's recruiting circles around the rest of the conference, but the on field competition hasn't really been there for much of the last 6-7 years. I think that may be changing, though with Kirby Smart at UGA. And Auburn seems to dust themselves off every 4-5 years.

Dunno why it took Malzahn so many years to find a good QB after Nick Marshall. That was half of their struggles.

Absolutely. Let's not forget, just four weeks ago, some had Malzahn on the hot seat. He's lucky he got a very talented 5* Baylor transfer to bail him out.

They seem.to luck into a good/great QB every 3-4 years by unusual means...

2010- sCam Newton (JUCO)
2013- Nick Marshall (converted DB)
2017- Jarrett Stidham (transferred from a sinking ship)
