NFL Rumors (Trades/Free Agents)

I was glad to hear that it was not the Browns making the trade. I am not sold on Schaub on being an improvement on what we already have in Cleveland, and would have hated to see them give up too much to get him, as apparently the Texans have just done. We'll see, he could prove to be the next Elway, but they better fix that shitty line of theirs too.

The Browns QB situation is one of the worst in the league. Schaub would have been a significant improvement over Frye I think. Now whether you want to give up a 2nd this year, a 2nd next year and switch spots with Atl in the first round(8th to 10th) to get him is arguable. I love the deal though.....:wink2:

Snyder needs to keep his nose out of the day to day. Also, as highlighted here, they have made some really bad personnel decisions over the last 5 years or so. Bad contracts for over the hill players (Bruce Smith, Deion Sanders), overrated players (Randel El, Brandon Lloyd), bad trades (bailey for portis), etc..

Thank you Mr. Obvious.....you are 100% correct-Snyder is Mark Cuban's bad side...

I don't understand why people drool over cannon's for arms. How often is your team going to be throwing 70 yard bombs?

Go back and watch the scUM St. game from 05'. A couple of Troy's intermediate lasers went straight through the MSU DB's hands and boom-right in the breadbox to Teddy and Santonio for 6. A Qb w/ an arm weaker than Troy would be looking at pick 6's the other way. Next to accuracy/field smarts, arm strength is the most important thing for a QB.

Because at least you know as a coach that you can throw the 70 yard bomb play into the playbook and know you have a good chance of getting it completed. And if he has the big arm and is accurate with it, you obviously know that he can throw medium and be even more accurate.

As a Texans' fan, I don't really understand the move that much. I don't believe that QB is that big of a concern for the Texans. If they wanted to address team needs, then they should have definitely traded for a quality offensive lineman. I don't see how Matt Schaub is an upgrade over David Carr. I'd say David has done pretty well with no help, whatsoever. Now Carr is apparently on his way out and I can see him flourishing somewhere where he gets protection and time. Schaub could be the real deal. I have no idea. However, it makes no sense to me to trade for a guy that has only started a couple games in his brief NFL career and give up high draft picks. As David Carr has proven, one person can't do it by himself.

Yeah, and a 70-yard pick is better than a 45-yard punt.

Yeah, I would really worry about the 70 yard bomb play if I was a coach.

Yeah, Cleveland does not have a great QB situation, true, although you have to admit, atlanta's isn't a hell of a lot better. Vick is not a good QB, a great runner, but not a great QB. If Vick is not successful this year, you could see him traded or released before the 08 season. A lot of people speculate that Petrino hopes to bring Brohm to Atlanta next year.

As far as Schaub goes, Frye has proven a hell of a lot more as a starter than Schaub has, so you really can't say he would be an improvement for sure or not. He might be, he just does not have anything to back it up yet. I am just glad the Browns did not give up a ton to get him. Houston can have him for that price. The Browns may have some interest in Carr.

You can't trade Vick, no team will take on that contract and cutting him would make owner Arthur Blank and GM Rich McKay look like idiots. Atl.'s QB situation was (before trading Schaub) much better than Cleveland's. What exactly has Frye proven? The same as Schaub, nothing IMO. As for people speculating that Petrino hopes to bring in Brohm, not happening. He can hope in one hand and sh.. in the other because Arthur Blank isn't letting Vick go anywhere as long as the Georgia Dome is selling out and Vick shows some ability and keeps the fans entertained. Besides I imagine Brohm will go top 5 next year and the Falcons won't be anywhere near that high, hopefully.

You could be right, but Alt ate a ton of the Peerless Price contract to get him out of town. Frye has won NFL games, Shaub has not. To me, no matter how you slice it, that is proving more. True Vick is entertaining, I just don't know if you continue to sell out just to watch Vick run for 113 yards and throw 3 picks and lose the game. Regardless, that was a great trade for your squad. They should have a killer draft and be able to fill some holes to get them back to being a playoff team again. But I believe Vick is 0-2 against the Brownies in his career. We Browns fans find little things like that to be happy about, since there isn't much else.

So what's the rumor on Carr? Obviously they are not going to keep him on as a high paid backup? Draft day trade or sooner?

actually the cap hit on Peerless wasn't bad since it was a one year hit of 5.7 million. I believe getting rid of Vick would mean hits for a few years in a row since he signed and then restructured his deal spreading out the guaranteed money. Either way I like what Atl. was able to get for him.

What they got for him, and the elimination of the 'Schaub is better' crowd should make Atlanta fans very happy. I don't think that anyone can make an honest prediction of how Schaub will do, but right now, it looks like Atlanta came out way ahead on this deal.
