NFL Rumors (Trades/Free Agents)

I'm starting to get worried that a boy named Brady is going to be the Dolphins first pick. With the way they are manuevering it really looks like the offense is getting the upgrades and Trent Green isnt a long term option. Maybe they're looking at Troy Smith in the second round!:sneaky:

OK I know, I'm dreaming.

Are there any other Browns fans as psyched as I am for Eric Steinbach to wreck his boat on Lake Erie, get another DUI, and then get a staph infection in the injuries he sustains in the wreck?

Just as long as he doesn't crash into Shooter's. That's a nice deck.

The Detroit Lions have agreed to send cornerback Dre' Bly to the Denver Broncos in exchange for running back Tatum Bell and tackle George Foster. Trades cannot become official until Friday, the first day of the league year.

Bly, a two-time Pro Bowl performer who earned a Super Bowl ring as a member of the 1999 St. Louis Rams, did not fit well in the Tampa 2 defensive scheme employed by second-year head coach Rod Marinelli and new defensive coordinator Joe Barry. Thus the Lions granted Bly and his agent, Kennard McGuire, permission to seek a trade two weeks ago.

The New Orleans Saints, New York Giants and Washington Redskins also were in the running for the 29-year-old Bly.

Neither Bly nor McGuire was available for comment.

In Denver, Bly will join Champ Bailey in forming one of the game's top cornerback tandems. The Broncos needed a replacement for Darrent Williams, who was killed in a drive-by shooting after a New Year's Eve party in Denver.

Bly is considered one of the game's best big-play cornerbacks. In eight seasons he has intercepted 31 passes, forced 17 fumbles, and scored eight touchdowns (five interception returns, two fumble returns, one punt return). Last season Bly tied for the team lead with three interceptions and led the Lions with 18 passes defended and four forced fumbles.

Bly has one year remaining on the $22 million free-agent contract he signed in 2003 and the Broncos are expected to begin working on a long-term agreement with McGuire.

for you draftniks out there, this could shake things up a bit. It would seem odd to me to bring in George Foster, who is a RT, as well as have Jeff Backus and then draft Joe Thomas at #2.

Methinks that Detroit is going to look hard at Brady Quinn. It's pretty hard to justify having no real backup plan to John Kitna.

Perhaps Cleveland snares an extra pick from Zona for Joe Thomas.

Hey now come on guys. With Steinbach we are going to the SUPER BOWL. Keep the faith...as Browns fans if we don't have faith well then what the hell else do we have. GO BUCKS and GO BROWNIES! Woof! Woof! Woof!

I think you answered that rhetorical question with the 2 following words.

Anyway, I'm not going to get excited about any of these FA possibilities until they're no longer free agents. IMO, they need Steinbach or Dielman. There just aren't enough picks in the draft to address all the OL and DL issues. Clements would be a great addition on top, taking a lot of pressure off our (hopefully soon-to-be young/)aging DL and letting Wimbley run rampant even more.
But if we're breaking the bank on one player, it's gotta be a lineman. Just my thoughts.
