NFL Rumors (Trades/Free Agents)

Would Fred Smoot be of interest to Cleveland to provide depth at CB? If so he was just released.

I'm never surprised to see the Browns sign players cut by other teams -- but I think it probably depends on how Minter is doing. Savage told us all he's a freakish athlete when he was drafted and then he was injured for the entire year. It was the theme of the year... hopefully just for last year.

Wasn't he one of the "Love Boat" main participants from a couple years back? If so then hell yeah they should sign him, we could use some excitement around here. :slappy:

Yeah I see what your saying its just that Smoot has played at the NFL level and Minter has not. I just wonder if we would like to go after a more proven player instead of drafting guys on potential. It is proven every year that some guys are workout/combine freaks but some guys are just football players.
We are probably going to sign Clements anyway so this is all probably just a Smoot point. :wink2:

He probably would be very interested. With Lake Erie right there I imagine getting a boat party going would be pretty easy.

Didn't know that... but I'm sure he'd love the July 4th festivities too.

I'm not really saying anything other than that only the staff knows wtf is going on with Minter, and this team has a track record of signing other teams' throw-aways. So if he does get signed, I'll take it as an indication that maybe Minter is a flop.

Yeah, just looked it up. He was one actually busted for it.

Both Smoot and McKinnie will pay a $1,000 fine -- all in singles -- and will perform 48 hours of community service, which will entail cleaning up after gentlemen who use the erotic video booth in a strip club.

Looks like Laurence Maroney is going to get the starting gig next season.

The New England Patriots are expected to release Corey Dillon before free agency begins at midnight Thursday. The franchise record-holder for rushing yards in a season will then be free to negotiate with other teams in hopes of landing a job as a featured back.

By releasing him now, the Patriots will save more than $2 million. Dillon would count for $4.4 million against the salary cap if the team retains him.

Where will the biggest of the free-agent names end up? Sources I talked to Thursday said not to discount linebacker Adalius Thomas winding up with New England -- despite an expected price tag that could approach $9 million per season. While many anticipate Thomas being reunited with former Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Nolan in San Francisco, some within the league said the 49ers won't necessarily make a strong push for him.

Looks like Cleveland may have some competition for Clements. Although they do not have the same cap room.

As for Buffalo cornerback Nate Clements, Tennessee is known to have both heavy interest and at least $20 million of cap room. The Titans are looking for a cornerback to replace Reynaldo Hill and play opposite Pacman Jones. Cleveland is thought to be another potential suitor for Clements.
