NFL Rumors (Trades/Free Agents)

I really think the Bengals should have franchised Steinbach over Justin Smith. Guard isn't a value position but keeping Carson protected is key to the Bengals chances. Smith doesn't deserve top 5 at his position money. I think his production could be replaced.

I wish they would have just let both of them go....but of the two I'm glad they tagged Smith. They would have to pay Steinbach a top 5 OL salary. A guard is just not worth a takle's money.....especially when you already have two very highly paid tackles to watch Carson's back. They drafted Whitworth last year and I think he'll do fine as long as he stays at guard.

By signing Smith for one year, they can draft his replacement this year and let him go next year. This year's draft is very heavy on defensive ends. Time for this team to put some money and effort into the defense.

I am glad they didn't. Gives us pathetic Browns fans some hope that we can actually go out and get a guy to improve our sad OL.

they kind of need both of them tthough

i agree though, carson took a lot of hits this past season, and their line was one of the reasons they struggled

I agree, Steinbach is not worth top 5 guard money (not that Smith is worth top 5 DE money either). Steinbach has basically digressed IMO since his rookie year. I think it really says something that the organization went out of their way to lock up every lineman EXCEPT Steinbach. They either realized that they couldn't afford him or wasn't worth the money he was going to get. I also wonder if there are still some sour grapes that it was basically his lapse that took Carson out of the playoffs last season. I think Whitworth is a more than adequate replacement at guard.

Well and don't forget that he was one of the Bengals who got arrested last year. He got a DUI while driving his boat on the ohio river. If the organization is trying to clean up then it would make sense to let him go as like you said he has seemed to get worse rather than better since his rookie year. If the fa market would have had more DE's out there I think that smith would not have been franchised, but instead it was better to protect what you have, rather than moving downm in quality and over paying someone's elses crap

According to NFL.COM, Jamal Lewis has been released by the Ravens.

The Ravens have waived running back Jamal Lewis, general manager and executive vice president Ozzie Newsome announced today.
But, just one day before the start of free agency, that doesn't mean that the seven-year veteran won't don a Ravens' jersey in the future. Newsome expressed his desire to re-sign Lewis sometime this offseason.

With the free agency period beginning this Friday, the Texans cleared some room in their salary cap today by releasing veterans Zach Wiegert, Seth Payne and Eric Moulds.

Vikings apparently going to make a pitch for Matt Schaub from the Falcons. Seems to me that they got better offers than this for him last year.

Vikings will offer 2nd rounder for Schaub

According to the St Paul Pioneer Press the Vikings will offer a second round pick and possibly Brad Johnson to the Falcons for Quarterback Matt Schaub.

If the Vikings make this offer, the Falcons would have to give it serious consideration. A high 2nd round pick would be great value for Schaub.

EDIT: Just heard that according to the Star Tribune out of MN, that Brad Johnson was just released.

I just heard on the Cincy news station that the Bengals released Brian Simmons. He's a very serviceable LB with experience in both a 3-4 and 4-3. Someone will get a pretty good one in him IMO. I hope the Pats check him out.
