NFL Discussion (Official Thread)

Crazy that most of the teams that have spent a shitload of money on a top tier safety haven’t had much, if any success in the postseason. Chargers spent a ton for Derwin, Steelers a ton on Minkah, Falcons a ton on Bates. I just think money is much better spent on an elite level pass rusher vs. an elite Safety. I think you can find serviceable enough young Safeties via the draft.

The Bengals sure as heck can’t! Sign bums like Scott and Stone or draft bums like Hill. Even Vonn Bell looks washed this year.

That’s another problem entirely, though. Complete lack of a comprehensive scouting department plays a massive role in the lack of consistency in the draft, and signing bum FAs. I really like Duke Tobin, and think he’s done a pretty impressive job considering he’s essentially the Bengals GM, without the title, and he’s also doing the same amount of scouting that most other organizations have 5-10 scouts doing. It’s going to be incredibly important that they make some serious attempts at expanding their scouting department considerably in the next 2-3 seasons to catch up with the rest of the league.
