NFL Discussion (Official Thread)

Of course the hilarity of using Brady as an example to "get him weapons" after the heir apparent in Jimmy G was drafted, is that the Patriots ONLY offensive skill player drafted in the first 3 rounds for those remaining Brady years was Sony Michel.

Meanwhile TB went on to win 3 superbowls after that 2014 draft with a 2nd round TE, 7th round WR, 3rd round WR and a combination of running backs drafted no higher than the 3rd round.
If elite QB's make the offense work, then Devante Adams + a supporting cast should be all Rodgers needs. Forgetting for a moment that he also had 2 quality RB's and a solid Oline as well.

I don't think Rodgers can fully grasp nor articulate what he's angry about beyond the fact he's mad that GB drafted a QB. Well, the shoe is now on the other foot from 2005 kid. In the long term, the Packers make the correct move selecting Aaron in 05'. He's seeing what life was like for the other half (Farve) and isn't too happy about it.

Truth is, does AR have any guaranteed money left on his contract? If not, then I would presume that's what all the fuss is about.

You're forgetting that NE signed multiple WRs and RBs in order to get Brady weapons. The draft isn't the only way to acquire talent.
And an elite QB like Rodgers is why GB even made it to the NFC championship game, the OL, RBs and certainly Adams helped, but those same pieces are there now and we're hearing stories like what @buckeyemania11 said. Rodgers has the chips right now. He can walk away if he wants, and GB is screwed and they know it, and they did it to themselves. This not like the Favre situation, because Favre lost in the wild card the year before Rodgers was drafted, and Rodgers' rookie year they only won 4 games. Green Bay moved up to take an heir at QB and screwed over their best player. It's on the FO

LeGarrette Blount
Chris Hogan
Rex Burkhead
Jeremy Hill
Phillip Dorsett

That is some COT DAMN firepower there, sir.

Look I'm not saying I'm disagreeing with your stance that Rodgers holds the chips and that there might also be issues behind the scenes. But using Brady's weapons is simply a terrible comparison.

And you realize that the Packers have signed next to no FA offensive skill position players in few years! So what Brady got, looks like a great haul, and that's Rodgers' gripe. Not to mention, in one year Brady goes to TB and gets the FO to get Gronk, Antonio Brown and Fournette. And they were added to an already talented skill position core. Rodgers has a good RB rotation and 1 star WR, and nothing else. That Love pick could've gone to WRs like Tee Higgins, Chase Claypool or Michael Pittman, it's not like Rodgers had a bad 2019 season.
And my only point about Bradys weapons, was that at least got weapons! Rodgers tells the team his needs and just ignore them. Franchise players aren't ignored, and losing him would mean more to their franchise then him sitting out

So basically the same with Brady while in NE? Got it

So what Brady got, looks like a great haul, and that's Rodgers' gripe.

Then Rodgers has no gripe because that's comparing trash to trash. Davante Adams in NE would easily have been Brady's best receiver. Yes, I'm including Edleman in that as well.

Not to mention, in one year Brady goes to TB and gets the FO to get Gronk, Antonio Brown and Fournette.

TB has the greatest collection of skill Brady has teamed up with since Welker and Moss, that much was never in question. But those players came to Tampa because of Brady and nothing else.

Rodgers has a good RB rotation and 1 star WR, and nothing else.

So basically, again, almost the exact same thing Brady had with the Pats? Neat. We're making progress here.

That Love pick could've gone to WRs like Tee Higgins, Chase Claypool or Michael Pittman, it's not like Rodgers had a bad 2019 season.

It could have. However if Love ends up being 2/3rds of what Rodgers is, can you blame the Pack for securing their long term future at the position? Can you explain how this situation is any different from the Rodgers/Farve saga?

And my only point about Bradys weapons, was that at least got weapons! Rodgers tells the team his needs and just ignore them. Franchise players aren't ignored, and losing him would mean more to their franchise then him sitting out

Brady went to a team with elite receivers already on roster and brought in more supplemental talent. Probably for the first time in his career. So in that respect Rodgers should have a beef. If you haven't picked up on it by now, I'm merely pointing out that your mentioning of all those "weapons" Brady had in NE while winning Superbowls was anything but. Rodgers has about the same amount of talent to work with currently in GB. Had you said "Rodgers needs more weapons like Brady currently has" in order to get over the hump, then chances are we wouldn't be having this little conversation right now.

So you’re basically blaming the Packers front office because a bunch of has beens and troublechildren glommed off of Brady for a cheap title instead of Rodgers?

Ok, I feel you, bad example with Brady. But my point still stands that GB did themselves no favors by not even attempting to get Rodgers any other offensive weapons. And he's letting his unhappiness show in a public forum. And the GB franchise has more to lose.

No, I'm blaming the GB FO for not attempting to acquire any more talent for one of their franchises best players in history. And their about to set their franchise back years

I guess I’m not clear on how you know they “didn’t try”. Maybe they didn’t go after who he wanted, maybe they didn’t try and win any bidding wars…but that’s their prerogative, not his. I don’t really see what cards Rogers is holding I guess, in the sense that GB is obviously planning at least a semi tear-down post-Rodgers, so if he sits out it basically accelerates their tear down. Sure, he gets paid his guaranteed money, but he can’t really force them to trade him, and so he wouldn’t get to play anywhere else until his contract runs out. I’d be totally on his side if he wasn’t getting paid his worth, or something that had to do with him personally…it all sounds to me though like he wants to be the GM, and is pissed he can’t be. His job is to play with whomever is there. Going public with not liking who you have doesn’t seem to serve anyone well.

I can only go by statement made by those are supposedly in the know. And it seems like he was unhappy with trading up for his heir apparent as opposed to drafting another offensive skill player. And he's holding the cards that he's coming off an MVP season and led the team to the NFC championship, and with him the team still dominates their division. And without him, I agree there will be a rapid tear down. And the terrible position of being without a franchise QB

The Packers were so good as a team on offense last year (and all things considered their D was not bad), even with replacing their center & Rodgers, I think they are the clear favorite in the NFC North. Their good coaching will help get them back to the playoffs as division champs.
