The depth at T is a big concern.

I shudder to think what would happen if we had a spate of injuries there (OL was pretty healthy this year) like we just had at RB.

That's my concern as well and it was foreseeable, replacing Paris and Dawand is impossible. I think Fryar is going to be really good, but outside him there are a ton of question marks...hopefully the development with Frye is there. Interior OL I am not worried about in the slightest, but OT I am. Especially with a new QB.

You could replicate Orlando Pace in a time machine and start them both at T next year and we aren't winning a NC unless that gagglefuck of a secondary gets fixed to the point of reasonably competent.

I'm not sure what you do to fix Knowles' penchant for man free pure risk calls at just the wrong time.

Defense:
DE - JT
DT - Hall
DT - Hamilton or Williams
Jack - Sawyer
LB - Eich
LB - Chambers
CB - Burke
CB - Hancock
S - Styles
S - Stokes
S - Ransom
For us to be successful, next year's defense needs to take another large leap compared to 2022.
In 2021, we sucked against all teams. In 2022, we looked good against bad offenses, but not against good offenses.
We need our 3rd year players to significantly improve.
  • DT were poor this year against decent OL - could not beat 1:1 blocking
  • Sawyer or Curry need to step up at DE - teams can't continue to double JT without suffering
  • Let's not push Sawyer into the "Jack" position - he's not good in coverage and he's not as good as the LBs in blitzing. Let's let him play as a standard DE. I don't think we have a "Jack" ready to play on the roster.
  • CBs need to improve technique in man-coverage
  • We need one S position capable of covering WR - I don't think Styles/Stokes/Ransom can do it.
  • Lastly, Knowles needs to learn from the last two 'L's this season to adapt his defensive plans to his personnel strengths. We were really a poor man-coverage team in 2022, but still ran mostly man vs. ttun. We're light years ahead of the Coombs era, but still not where we need to be.

OT prospects:
Jackson could move to LT. 5 star. Great feet and though not the idea height he has long arms which is more important. Probably our best option.
Zen - He has the size, length, weight, etc. Could be a big surprise when give the chance.
Fryar - Sure starter at RT
Cristman - Similar to Zen
Trutant and Lerouix( sp) are not options
Fitzpatrick - Young but talented. Probably needs a year or two.
Montgomery - True freshman. But extremely talented.

OT depth is definitely a concern

I'm confident that we'll be fine at QB. Maybe not Fields/Stroud-level fine, but fine.
Question will be whether we skate by the-skin-of-our-teeth at OT or this is the year OT recruiting woes come home to roost.
We won't know until we play ND/PSU or better competition.
