Looks like speculation is Kenyatta Jackson is entering the portal.
Based on 2nd information on his Twitter account.
This one is bad attrition.
Might not be his choice.
Our whiffs at DE in the 23 recruiting cycle are going to come home to roost in the 24 season.
We’re going to need to hit the portal if we want to be at 85 scholarships.

I feel like we are gonna be way short 85 scholarship players next year….

Definitely need to have our arms around the situation a bit better so we can recruit more strategically.

Taking a 20 player class is very conservative in face of all these departures.

maybe we’ll have 6 scholarship kickers this year.

No way will OSU be under 85. Its only January, this Portal ends in 2wks. And then the other one is in May.

Might need to increase the amount of ohio athletes signed
OSU shouldn't have to settle on OH recruits because of their loyalty to OSU. OSU needs to bring in the best players available, and do their best to keep them. If they leave, then they get replaced. This isn't the Tressel era anymore. Only relying on OH talent is a recipe for OSU to not compete to win an NC, the ceiling would be the B1G and they would be no better than scUM.
No thanks!

No offense to our staff....they have missed on a few the past several years in regards to ohio athletes. In terms on keeping numbers at the 85 marker...if ohio state is passive with the transfer portal but loosing the NIL battle with top athletes across the nation....then my suggestion of increasing ohio athletes to fill the gap is not far off.

Just relax, there's no need to keep freaking out over NIL and the Portal. You're out of your mind if you don't think that OSU will field an 85 man roster come Game 1 2023. Like has been said multiple times, there is another NIL window in May as well. And this Portal window is still open. Our staff has also led a team with their 4ht string RB, losing their top WR(and best WR in the country) for the year, losing their best active WR in the last quarter of their biggest to within a FG kick of making another NC. So I'll say that OSU is in great position on all fronts. Settling on OH recruits should not even be considered if OSU wants to actually win an NC. Relying on OH recruits and OSU will be turning into scUM in no time, happy with winning the B1G every few years along with making the CFP infrequently, and then other years getting to the Cheeze It bowl. Idk about you, but I don't want to cheer on OSU in the Gasparilla Bowl to play Louisville or Texas Tech and be happy because OSU kept a 3star from Trotwood from leaving the state.

Btw, its crazy that the teams active in the Portal and in NIL, i.e.: Miami, aTm, Free Shoes, Colorado, LSU, Arizona St, Tejas etc were all in irrelevant bowl games and are non factors in CFB(except for LSU surprising many). OSU is in a better spot then them all, and will open the season as the #2 team.

Times have changed with the portal now available.

I don’t think idea is to ignore national recruiting and focus solely on Ohio. The idea is to attack national recruiting as aggressive as ever, but round out the class with 3* kids from Ohio who are more developmental type players.

It’s basically a blended approach which we haven’t had in quite some time.

This class is a good example….20 recruits now looks entirely too light in terms of volume. We probably should’ve signed closer to 25 than 20. OSU, for an elite school was certainly on the lower side of signees…..I’d personally like to see those last 5 scholarships likely distributed to kids who are in the 3* neighborhood who will be more open to sitting a few years, help build the culture, and come in understanding they likely won’t see field to Jr./Sr. seasons….and don’t get butthurt over kids coming in through the portal to fill holes.

It's not full-fledged Michigan/FSU approach at this point, but maybe a much lighter version of it with our last few recruiting scholarships.

Getting those 3star projects is why the OL looks just plain bad when it comes depth. OSU shouldn't have to have 3stars as any type of foundation. OSU is trying to keep pace with UGA and Bama, not Indiana and Illinois. Even with only 20 signees, the Portal can fill a lot of holes and mask deficiencies. Misses in recruiting mean little when that 5star HSer can be replaced by a small school stud, with an actual college ready body, understands college time management and knows the speed of the college game. Its great to get a 5star DE or CB, but there's a player for say Troy or Liberty with a year or 2 under his belt that comes to the program ready and doesn't need to be babied like most true frosh

My expectation is our staff do a better job evaluating in the state of Ohio and I don't care what star the kids are.

I think the corner position is something that I can apply this viewpoint toward. Numbers are low. Ohio State is blessed to have West and the Smith kid locally. Well that is only two....evaluate the crap out this state and find a 3rd cause there is one there. What can't happen is chasing kids across the county coming up with only two ohio kids at the end of the day when you need 3-4.

I hear you on the stars, problem is, why reach for an OH project just because he's from OH?
OH has 2 great CBs in 2024, but why go after an average MAC caliber kid just because he's from OH? I'd rather that kid prove himself on scholly at Akron than take up a spot at OUS where he's riding the pine and won't see the field. Like I said, OSU is chasing UGA, not scUM. In 2021 OSU landed the top OG, Donovan Jackson from TX(started this year and looked great) and Ben Christman from OH(hasn't seen the field). Would you rather OSU land Christman and Mao Glynn who signed with UC because both are from OH?
The best schools get the best players and don't settle point blank. Bama isn't settling for players who are from AL, and worrying about them staying. If the elite players they recruited leave, then you replace them with other elite players. When Haskins left for the NFL, OSU didn't settle on going after a kid from Toledo, or a kid from West Clermont HS, they got Justin Fields(from GA). UGA is sitting around compiling a roster of projects from GA, they're getting the best talent everywhere. And OSU should do the same. It's like you want OSU to become Rutgers or Purdue. Recruiting is recruiting, you win and you lose. NIL has thrown things off, and OSU will get there's in order soon. But I hope in the mean time, Day doesn't settle on in state talent because he's afraid to compete for national talent. IDC if we land players from the south, west or east coast, as long as it means OSU winning, winning big and hoisting more trophies
