Next Generation Console News: Xbox One, PS4, Wii U

That price seems to be what is expected. Also look for the cheap system with 2 year xbox live agreement.

Specs are still just "leaks" at this point, but it appears the XBox will be an 8 core AMD processor, 8 GB RAM, hard drive over 500 GB (I saw 640 as the base), and an AMD 8000 series GPU. The GPU is the biggest question, and of course will be the big deciding factor in how powerful the system will be. I saw one rumor claiming it will be a 8800 level GPU. Not sure if it will be a 8830 or 8850 or 8870. Yet a good guess would be something equivalent to today's 7950 which is a rather powerful card. If that is the case, the WiiU becomes completely underpowered and I would be happy that they decided to not go with a super cheap solution.

The PS4 doesn't seem to have as many leaks, but appears to be a quad core with the cpu and GPU integrated into one. Backward compatibility would be highly unlikely since it will be very different architecture vs. the current PS3.

Of course all of those things could be complete fabrications. Yet it makes me feel better that the rumors of a mid level 6000 series GPU in the next XBox and PS are dying off.

2013 is a huge year for gamers. Nintendo (NTDOY) just launched the Wii U ahead of the holidays and both Sony (SNE) and Microsoft (MSFT) are expected to issue next-generation consoles before the year is through. We’ve seen plenty of rumors about both systems over the past few months, and the latest comes from Kotaku and focuses on Sony’s PlayStation 4.
The site claims to have gotten its hands on documents describing Sony’s developer system given to premier partners so they can build games ahead of the next-generation console launch. The specs, if accurate, will obviously line up with the release version of the system. Included in the specs Kotaku is reporting are an AMD64 “Bulldozer” CPU with eight cores total, an AMD GPU, 8GB of system RAM, 2.2GB of video memory, a 160GB hard drive, a Blu-ray drive, four USB 3.0 ports and more.
Sony also reportedly has a redesigned controller in the works that will include a capacitive touch pad.

So if new consoles come out fall/holiday '13...when is marketing/reveal going to happen? I didn't follow the 360/PS3 marketing/reveal...so is it soon? Summer?

Rumor is it will happen in the March/April timeframe, and they will have their own events. E3 used to be the main place for these types of announcements (E3 is in June), but since Apple started doing press conferences for their launches instead of waiting for industry showcases other companies have jumped on that bandwagon.

That'll fall flat on its ass real soon. The gaming community will respond with such negativity that MS will have no choice but to change that.

As for the PS3 specs. Good thing AMD locked in that contract with Sony.

New Xbox requires an always-on connection to block used games, says report

I'll probably skip on new consoles if this is going to be how things are.

Yea, that's been the rumor for about the past year or so, comes up, then goes away, comes back up...

I may skip it as well, even though I don't buy Used games, I like to resell mine, so it would kill that. It's also freaking stupid that theoretically if you had 2 xbox's in the house, you wouldn't be able to take one game from one xbox to the other (unless the activation goes to the internet and not the console)

Which it probably won't, because it'll be tied to the MAC address of the NIC on the Xbox.

Fuck Microsoft BTW.

Yeah if that happens, I'll be skipping the new console. From a business perspective for M$ and Playstation, it's stupid. For the game developers it makes sense (like EA, having the stupid code to put in to play online when you get a new game).
