Next Generation Console News: Xbox One, PS4, Wii U

I have been thinking long & hard about what system I want to purchase, with Mario Kart & Smash Bros, I'm being swayed to Nintendo.. I'm over the online shoot-em-ups.. will miss out on things like the new Red Dead but I still have a PS3 with GTA V.. hmm...

If you do get a Nintendo, let me know. That way I can update my anecdotal statistic to one.

Thinking of getting a console soon. Leaning towards the PS4 but could easily be swayed either way. Should I wait for there to be another "version" of these consoles to come out? Are there significant bugs or issues for either console? And most of all, which is better and why?

As far as console exclusive releases (Halo, Forza, MLB The Show), I don't care too much. I play sports games and some shooters (COD, BF). Occasionally some other random games.

Obviously, PS4 has the better technology for gaming, but will there even be noticeable differences between that and the XBone? Are the "extras" of either console exceedingly more awesome than what the competitor provides?

Sounds like your choice is fairly close either way. My deciding factors are simple.
1st) which system brings the most games to you that you enjoy. If you only care about games that will be on both system then...
2nd) where are your friends gaming? Do you want to be play on the same system as them to take advantage of multiplayer, etc...
3rd) Do you have enough experience to know which interface you like better? Decreasing frustration will improving your inperience.
4) ask yourself what all you want to do on the system. Gaming only? Home intertainment, Skype? Something else? These are likely way down the priority list but some systems have built in exclusive content. PS4, as an example, has a built in application for streaming anima. Xbox has a few movie/entertain exclusive apps, it also has Skype, and the abilty to interact with the system via the kinect.
5) lastly. Think where the systems are headed. Is there a bit of future tech that really interests you. Are you in love with the idea of virtual reality? Illumaroom? Or something as simple as expanding memory/external hard drives, etc.

If I were you I would wait until the holiday deals are leaked out. Say around September and October. You will know more then about possible incentive deals and release dates on games. Just my 2 cents.

I'll speak for Xbox One since I own one. There are plenty of pros and some cons to getting the Xbox One. First off, if you are a fan of shooter games and have played Battlefield on a 360 or PS3, it's a completely different game on Xbox One. Much crisper graphics, smoother play, and the ability to play in 32 on 32 battles. Unfortunately, since EA has their greasy hands on BF4, the lag and server instability is still a reoccurring issue.

On sports games, I think this next wave coming out in the next few months will give us a real feel of how the next gen consoles will perform with sports titles. I do enjoy playing FIFA on Xbox One, pro clubs is quite enjoyable to play with friends.

Controllers feel better on the new console, but are made cheaper (imagine that). If you use the mic given to you, use that thing like it's made of glass. One drop of the controller with headset plugged in, and that headset is likely busted. I'm on my second Xbox headset. Luckily, there's alternative options to communication now. With Turtle Beach, Astro, and a few others, you can go with a stereo headset. I wouldn't recommend it if you do mostly sports gaming, but could come in handy for shooter games.

I've been having the occasional problem of signing into Xbox Live. It will come up with an error code, and when I check the website it's a known issue, so I know it's not just my Xbox. Good thing is, it's usually resolved within an hour. Still pretty annoying.

Overall, the Xbox One is a fun console, and it's nearly the best time to own one with all of the new games being released. Hope this helps a bit.

I know this might be a bit off topic, but I'm trying to draw a parallel with Menardo and his thought on next gen sports games.

It was my experience that the overall game play from xbox360 to xboxOne in relation to Madden 25 was/is incredibly different. I'm hoping its just because it was an 'older' title ported
for a new system. However the over-all game speed and response was lacking, IMHO. Obviously I'm not a FIFA fan, so this is the only game I can really speculate on. However a simple example,
I'm traditionally very, very good on defense - however had issues stopping a simple stretch play on Xbox One. Same speed settings, same All-Madden, same team, same speed threshold.

I know it might sound strange but, has anyone else noticed that difference?

Absolutely agree about Madden. It drove me fucking crazy that they messed with the physics or something. I still own it, but can't play it..

FIFA didn't change much between consoles aside from graphical improvements.

Eastern kinda hit the key pts..

There won't by any other "versions" for the X1, they just released the X1 without the Kinect to get it at the magical $399 price that everyone orgasm's over. But IMO, they were having much better deals before they did that when they were releasing the full X1 w/kinect, and either Forza, Titanfall (sometimes both) for $450

I am super bored right now with my Xbox One because there's no games. Would love to play FIFA, with new one coming out in Sept, no sense in buying 14.

NHL coming out early Sept. Madden late August (Idk if I'll be getting this). And that's really when things start to come out. Like @Bucknut24 said, the lineup looks pretty good

I got the XBone. My family and I love it. I play the Lego games with the youngest kid. My oldest has Assassins Creed and Ryse. My wife does the fitness thing. With the Kinect it helps a ton, she loves it. We also like the interface for watching blue rays, DVDs, as well as Netflix. I can't speak to the PS4 though.
