Next Generation Console News: Xbox One, PS4, Wii U

Per Kotaku, the new XB1 will require you to install every game into your system, regardless if it is downloaded or disc based.

As such, the new system will give game developers the option of blocking rentals. One game per one system. But if you pay a small fee, you can allow access to your system.

Tough to swallow - I've purchased one new game in two years. The rest have been used.

You aren't going to recoup your used game money you greedy dimwits. Instead you will simply drive more customers to wait three to six months until it drops to 1/2 price or less.

Asking us to gamble sixty (or more?) dollars on a title with zero value once it is opened is ridiculous.

No kidding. I have no idea how I'm going to approach gaming on the new consoles. I have my go-to games (FIFA, NCAA, GTA, Battlefield) but beyond that, I may just pass up on the other games.

Microsoft's Xbox One will use Blu-ray discs for games, but you won't be using them as frequently as you might have with your PlayStation 3. In a statement made to Wired, Microsoft said that all games are installed to the Xbox One's hard drive to play; you won't have to insert the disc to run the game after that initial process.

I like this..

I install my games anyways

full FAQ http://news.xbox.com/2013/05/qa

Q: Will Xbox One be backward compatible with my existing games?
A: Xbox One hardware is not compatible with Xbox 360 games. We designed Xbox One to play an entirely new generation of games—games that are architected to take full advantage of state-of-the-art processors and the infinite power of the cloud. We care very much about the investment you have made in Xbox 360 and will continue to support it with a pipeline of new games and new apps well into the future.

Microsoft did say that if a disc was used with a second account, that owner would be given the option to pay a fee and install the game from the disc, which would then mean that the new account would also own the game and could play it without the disc.

Creative use of the word "option" there... as if the next best legal alternative will be something other than "use it as a coaster".
