cincibuck;901499; said:Given that the function of a uniform is to provide an instantly identifiable link to each member and that Michigan's colors are Maize and Blue I think they do a hell of a job.
The only other helmet in college football that even approaches Michigan's for instant public identity is Notre Dame's but there's a shit pot full of teams that wear gold helmets. (some even paint them with real gold paint, just like the Irsholes)
In short, Michigan has created a uniform with brand name level recognition, a trade mark that any other school would have to envy. They have succesfully defined their colors to the same shades of blue and yellow year, after year. They have played upon that identity since the 1930's altering their uniforms probably less than any other sports team except the Yankees. Like it or not, that's advertiusing/PR power.
In the meantime, from 1950 to today, Ohio State has struggled to define gray in any consistent form and did not lock on to a helmet scheme until 1969 when they finally went to silver. The silver helmet has finally given the Buckeyes a trade mark that approaches what Michigan has had since the 30s.
You don't have to like Michigan (I sure don't) but it doesn't hurt to look at what they've done with their colors and their uniforms and respect what it does for them.

Bestbuck36;934802; said:I agree. I love the gray uniforms and we should go to those for every away game in my opinion. I'd love it if the football team would actually incorporate some gray back into the program also. Last season we changed our jersey's to look like Georgia and now the field looks like Wisconsin. Why have we lost our identity? Has winning changed the way the board members and alumni look at our traditions? I sure as hell hope not!!!!
