New Uniforms/Nike Changes (Basketball)

Eh, their uniforms will still look like shit.

Given that the function of a uniform is to provide an instantly identifiable link to each member and that Michigan's colors are Maize and Blue I think they do a hell of a job.

The only other helmet in college football that even approaches Michigan's for instant public identity is Notre Dame's but there's a shit pot full of teams that wear gold helmets. (some even paint them with real gold paint, just like the Irsholes)

In short, Michigan has created a uniform with brand name level recognition, a trade mark that any other school would have to envy. They have succesfully defined their colors to the same shades of blue and yellow year, after year. They have played upon that identity since the 1930's altering their uniforms probably less than any other sports team except the Yankees. Like it or not, that's advertiusing/PR power.

In the meantime, from 1950 to today, Ohio State has struggled to define gray in any consistent form and did not lock on to a helmet scheme until 1969 when they finally went to silver. The silver helmet has finally given the Buckeyes a trade mark that approaches what Michigan has had since the 30s.

You don't have to like Michigan (I sure don't) but it doesn't hurt to look at what they've done with their colors and their uniforms and respect what it does for them.

Wow, none of you going to rise to take the bait on that one? You like those damn rutgers shirts and those damn dishwater gray pants?

OSU Athletics: Swoosh, Cha-Ching!

The Ohio State department of athletics has announced a new seven-year deal with Nike. The deal will pay OSU just over 26,000,000 in cash and merchandise over the seven year period.

Additionally, OSU will receive a 12.5 per cent royalty from Nike on net sales of products on which Nike is the exclusive licensee.

There are also bonus payments for football and women's basketball based upon bowl appearances and the national championship in football and in-season and national championships in the two basketballs.

This may have been addressed but I didn't see it: Are the special uniforms we wore in the NCAA Tourney this past year going to be our standard uniforms for now on?

Which one? The gray jersey with scarlet stripes? Either way I LOVE the new basketball uni's. The gray was just listed as an alternate but they're all pretty sweet.

Unfortunately, it is the way college athletics is going and most of the major programs have some sort of contract with shoe companies.

I don't understand why Scum has an $80 million deal with Adidas for eight years and we only get 26 million for seven years. Am I missing something?

I agree. I love the gray uniforms and we should go to those for every away game in my opinion. I'd love it if the football team would actually incorporate some gray back into the program also. Last season we changed our jersey's to look like Georgia and now the field looks like Wisconsin. Why have we lost our identity? Has winning changed the way the board members and alumni look at our traditions? I sure as hell hope not!!!!

The field turf was a must have and I love the look. The uni's although they aren't as cool as the previous uni's, I still like them.

I agree with the choice in turf but they didnt have to go all Red and White. We could've left the Gray block O or even added a gray trim color somewhere. The gray track makes a little difference but I'd still like to see a bit more Gray with our Scarlet. The jerseys are nice but could also use a touch of Gray here and there. Just my opinion though.
