Ohio against the world.
Flip side to the What Brands Are You Loyal To thread, what brands or companies will you never buy again?

Starting off the fun from my posts in the General Vexations thread...Samsung Appliances. Never again.

I don't know is there's an opposite to the "Brands You're Loyal To" thread...if there is I couldn't find it so I'm posting it here.

Samsung appliances. Holy shit are they complete and utter garbage. Don't ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever EVER buy Samsung appliances.

Update, as expected, we're out of warranty and have been directed by Samsung to call a local technician. We did that last time because what the fuck do I know about ovens? I won't be doing it again...we'd be close to $600 invested in the oven above and beyond the purchase price in just over 4 years. I'll order a $30 igniter off Amazon and see if that works, otherwise we'll put that money towards a brand that will last us more than 2 years.

there should be a “Brands we hate/stay away form thread” because Samsung appliances would be at the top

I’ve tended to also shy away from Samsungs Electronics as well... especially TVs I’ve had several friends who swear never to own them again....

The quality of the picture is fantastic on the higher end models...but ours randomly turn on and off...well call it ghost TV...and it appears to be a common problem

I've never heard bad things about Samsung TV's but their fridges are complete shit. FYI if you own one and it has issues chances are they will service it for free, just tell them it's a design defect and you refuse to pay.

We haven't had any issues with our fridge, but my parents had a Samsung fridge with the ice in the door. They dicked around with Samsung for months before Samsung just bought them a brand new fridge of their choosing because the design was so bad they couldn't fix it.

*knock on wood* on year 8 with a fridge ... ice maker got fixed 3 times... at this point if it craps out we’re out and buying a new fridge

Repair guys have depressed me. Numerous have told me.. appliances are all crap... especially after 2010 and despite whatever you pay, be happy if you get 10 years

Million years ago growing up... Maytag washers and dryers lasted 40 years... Fridges never needed replaced...
I wonder if its
energy requirements
more electronics
cheap shitty manufacturing?

I had a LG 4K tv that died after a year and a half so 6 months past the warranty. I bought a new higher end Samsung TV to replace it and Costco threw in the 5 year Square Trade warranty. That seems to be pretty standard for more expensive TV's at Costco. I have a 10+ year old Philips plasma that is still kicking. Our house came with an LG washer and Samsung dryer that I'm guessing are 10 years old so we'll see how long they hold out. If heard with appliances it is best to stick to brands that make appliances not everything.

A mix of planned obsolescence and designing things to be replaced rather than serviced by non-professionals. Also, use of plastic rather than metal.

I'm on year 16 of my Kenmore fridge, but it is a plain Jane with no ice maker or electronic controls. My parents are on their third fridge in that time span.

Did you get it from Corders on Maple?

When LED lights first came out they were 20-30 each, but lasted forever. Now you can get them for a buck each, but they sacrificed quality to get there. I have some new cheaper LED's that have lasted as long as incandescent bulbs. I worked for a lighting company for the first 5 years of LED's going mainstream and the bulbs that I got at the beginning compared to the bulbs I'm getting from Costco or Amazon now is hugh.
