Repair guys have depressed me. Numerous have told me.. appliances are all crap... especially after 2010 and despite whatever you pay, be happy if you get 10 years

Million years ago growing up... Maytag washers and dryers lasted 40 years... Fridges never needed replaced...
Our oven we're getting 2 years a pop between major failures...even in the age of planned obsolescence and plastic parts that's not acceptable to me.
more electronics
One of the reasons I will stay away from "smart" appliances as long as possible. I don't need another point of failure, I need something that does what it's supposed to do cost effectively and unobtrusively.

I’ve tended to also shy away from Samsungs Electronics as well... especially TVs I’ve had several friends who swear never to own them again....

Me too. Never again Samsung for anything except phones, which is almost a completely different company to TV's. Had both a TV and DVD die on me well before you'd expect. Their phones seem ok. Didn't know they made fridges. No way I would touch one of them.

Compare what appliances do today vs what they did a million years ago... much much less complicated back then.
And compare how many households have a full set of appliances of all types today vs a million years ago... much more expensive back then.

The wonders of modernity, industrialization, competition, and keeping up with the Joneses.

EDIT: Propose to change title of this thread to "Make Appliances Great Again"!

Coffeemaster C30A for me. Built by the Sunbeam Corporation in Chicago, Illinois in the late 40's and makes a better cup of coffee than any made in China, aluminum heating element, touchscreen POS out there. Looks better too.
