Coffeemaster C30A for me. Built by the Sunbeam Corporation in Chicago, Illinois in the late 40's and makes a better cup of coffee than any made in China, aluminum heating element, touchscreen POS out there. Looks better too.

I never drank coffee, but when I lived in Chicago I used the bottom half of one of those as a hot pot. Ramen noodles Etc. It was awesome. They were all over the thrift stores in Chicago in the 80s.

Repair guys have depressed me. Numerous have told me.. appliances are all crap... especially after 2010 and despite whatever you pay, be happy if you get 10 years

Million years ago growing up... Maytag washers and dryers lasted 40 years... Fridges never needed replaced...

That's why I chose Speed Queen for our washer/dryer - wife wanted the fancy side loading Samsung, but Speed Queen is as old school as it gets. Hits the bare minimum for the mandatory electronic/green components, but otherwise it's all mechanical so if it ever does require repair, it's much less expensive than its electronic competitors. And it's made in Wisconsin, so parts are readily available. Plus they have the added benefit of being new but looking 40 years old, if that's your thing.

Sadly, they've become very popular with hard core coffee geeks. The ebay has them, but unless you catch a lucky auction, you're paying 70 or 80 for one in good working condition.

I hadn’t thought about them in years. It was trickier back then to find one with all the parts, but it was easy to just snag the bottom pot. When I was in my twenties anything remotely deco in design had my attention. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Had me one of these too! Perks of being a Mover.

Update, as expected, we're out of warranty and have been directed by Samsung to call a local technician. We did that last time because what the fuck do I know about ovens? I won't be doing it again...we'd be close to $600 invested in the oven above and beyond the purchase price in just over 4 years. I'll order a $30 igniter off Amazon and see if that works, otherwise we'll put that money towards a brand that will last us more than 2 years.
For the no one that still cares, the $30 igniter from Amazon worked, and we're back up and running. I look forward to another 2 years of great performance before I have to do it again.

I remember when Maytag and Sears used to be good brands... They SUCK
Regrettably we may have to get used to including the cost of extended warranties (for appliances) into the price to do price/value comparisons...

PS Forget about extended warranties on tires... save your money.. you seldom if ever will need it

I'm not quite there yet, but holy shit does Breezeline suck. They've officially been our ISP for about two months and we've had more outages in those two months than the 6-7 years when it was WOW. The only reason I haven't made a change is because Spectrum also blows and they're more expensive and ATT service at our address is slow as shit.

I liked WOW. I hate every other ISP I've ever had.

Yeah, we are switching to AT&T here directly. And "more expensive than AT&T?" I mean dude I don't know what WOW service you had (we have cable too) and Breezline was like, "welp fuck you send us ALL your money" -- soooo.... yeah.

I think I've only had 1 planned outage since Breezeline took over, but it was in the middle of the night and it I was only getting 100Mbps before and 500 after. I think WOW was doing some hardware upgrades in the middle of the day a couple years ago, which was great when the kids were in virtual school and I was WFH. Billing has been a mess. Last year I had an arrangement worked out with WOW where I was supposed to get 100Mbps for $30 a month for 2 years. In April they started charging $55 a month. The only thing Breezeline would do for me is their new customer deal for $30 for any speed for 6 months. I took 500 Mbps, but I have to remember to call back to downgrade to 100 Mbps in Nov. AT&T maxes out at 50 Mbps for more money and Spectrum has always been a shitty expensive option. At least Breezeline will provide decent speed without breaking the bank since I only want Internet. I think their base cost for 100Mbps is $40 a month for me so the service would have to get really bad to get me to change.

Breezeline has, so far, honored our 500mbps for $55/month we had with WOW. ATT at our address is 50mbps for $50/month. Spectrum is 400mbps for $70/month.

Our planned outage happened at 1:00 in the afternoon, on a day we happen to both be working from home. We were assured it would be back on promptly. 5 hours later, it was. In addition we've had 3 unplanned outages since. As mentioned above, with WOW we had 500 Mbps for $55. So far, they've honored that and that's kept my business there.
