Nebraska Cornhuskers (corn)

I assumed this bump was going to contain an article with the headline "Nebraska Fires Defensive Coordinator: Bo Pelini to Take Over Responsibilities".

Maybe next week.

At this point, we need someone with fresh blood. New blood, not a retread. Someone with a proven record of success.

I really don't know what is happening, but we're all getting tired of the dog and pony bs show that's constantly getting pumped down in Lincoln. I usually don't quote guys from TexPN, but Mitch Sherman says it best:

“There were a lot of positives that came out of it that got masked,” Pelini said.
Admittedly, Pelini is not a stats guy.
So perhaps he’s not concerned that in Nebraska’s past 12 quarters against Wyoming, Georgia and Wisconsin, it has allowed more than 1,800 yards of total offense. Each of those games sit among the nine highest total-yardage outputs ever produced by a Nebraska foe.
Including a loss to UCLA last year in which the Bruins gained 653 yards, the second-highest figure all time against Nebraska, that’s four of the top nine in the past 12 months.

Yep. you read correctly. 1,800 yards.

So, anybody who has read any of my posts knows about my seething hatred of all things Kansas State.

I gotta do this...this may be a lengthy one, so here goes...

2002. Nebraska goes 7-7, and the defensive coordinator at the time gets fired by Frank Solich, and replaced by Bo Pelini. This Defensive Coordiator was on the staff in 1995 as a linebackers coach, so he has two Championship Rings in his drawer, and learned under the great Doc Tom and Charlie McBride. He's elevated to the Defensive Coordinator spot in 2000 after Charlie McBride is pretty much forced out.

The move by Solich isn't seen as the most popular one, and is also seen as an effort to save his job. It wouldn't work, as he was fired at the end of the next season after winning nine games.

The defensive coordinator that was fired in 2002 becomes the head coach at a little school in North Dakota State. In his first season, he wins 8 games as the head coach. He's won over 73% of his games, and has only had one losing season (2009) as the head coach. His team is currently on a 13 game road win streak. He's 7-3 since 2006 in games against FBS teams. This includes wins over Kansas, Colorado, Ball State, Central Michigan, two against Minnesota, and now, Kansas State. Most impressively, he's won Back to Back National Championships at the FCS level.

Craig Bohl. A native son of Lincoln, who played Defensive back in the 70s under Doc Tom. Just got an 8 year extension to North Dakota State.

He successfully pimp slapped Snyder....AGAIN.....

And the guy....who was run out of town for Bo Pelini....is riding high, and his name is on the short list of coaches to get a big time job.

While I am still pissed at last weekend's debacle....I always get a smile on my face when Kansas State loses.

Alex,

I got a buddy (not Dan Whitney) who is a big Husker fan. He gave me a link to a Husker site where they were saying that if it weren't for the 11 big plays of 22+ yards by Wyoming, the D would have been fine. He said it was like saying if he didn't have a face that looked like it had been run over by a tractor, he would be a sex symbol.

There are problems there on defense and I really don't understand it. Bo P coordinated some really good defenses at LSU. I doubt he got stupid by leaving Louisiana. Is the talent level just not there? Is it between their ears? I just don't know.

Nebraska can win quite a few games just by out-scoring opponents. But to be really good, they are going to have to field a functional defense. I'm not a Husker fan, but I want to see a strong BIG and we need Nebraska to be good if our conference is going to be respected again like it has been historically.

They didn't look bad today, only really giving up the one touchdown, and getting a couple of pick-sixes. Bo got all pissy in the 3rd quarter at the backups and put the starters back in, LOL
I won't be convinced until they beat a top flight team, however, and next week, UCLA comes to town.

If they can manage to beat UCLA, then I might be convinced. However, I don't see that happening.

That being said.

TEXAS HAS GIVEN UP 400 YARDS RUSHING AT THE HALF!!!:lol:  :dance2:
