Nebraska Cornhuskers (corn)

It was an epic butt whipping, to be sure. But it was growing pains for a program trying to join the big boys. I will never be ashamed of getting to a National Championship game. That is quite the accomplishment in and of itself. There were over a hundred teams that could not get there.. So losing is disappointing, but getting there is a huge positive that should not be discounted.
You should have been there to talk some of that common sense into motormouth Spurrier before that game. He not only was sure he had ALREADY joined the big boys, he was absolutely positive he was KING of the big boys! His press conferences before that game were epic, where he repeatedly said that Nebraska would have absolutely no chance against his "Fun-N-Gun" offense and his team's greatly superior speed. I firmly believe that the epic butt whipping was even more epic due to his diarrhea of the mouth syndrome in the days leading up to it. The Husker players were PISSED, and rightly felt they were being greatly disrespected. But that's ok, when it came to "put up or shut up", they shut up Spurrier in a HUGE way on the national stage.

I hated Florida with a vengeance during the Spurrier regime. I actually came around quite a bit after Meyer became HC - I've always respected Meyer. Meanwhile, Spurrier was put in his place big-time when he thought he could jump to the Redskins and become hugely successful there. Of course he failed miserably - but never got over his motormouth syndrome there either. He was quoted in a press conference before coming to Dallas one week to play the Cowboys as "guaranteeing" a win for his owner - and was subsequently handed his ass on a platter in that game too! You can't argue with his college record, but IMHO he's one of the most class-less HC's ever to coach a major program.

Don't know why, but I don't think Coach Pelini is too upset about his show getting cut from one-hour to 30 minutes (less talking and screwing around every week).

http://sports.omaha.com/2011/07/28/pelini-tv-show-to-change/

Nebraska football coach Bo Pelini?s weekly television show has been cut from one hour to 30 minutes.

According to Big Ten rules, coaches shows are limited a half hour. So the Husker Sports Network will add a half-hour show called ?Nside Nebraska? that will piggyback onto coaches shows.

Opinion's vary.

Congrats on a great win in that one. It was a really nice night in the desert as I recall, and I managed to drive up almost to the stadium and park in a spot a had no right to ......other than the fact I was acting like I had aright to.

The other thing I remember about that game is all ESPN and other talking heads wanted to talk about was how Nebraska plays on Turf and not on Grass...

Hello, folks. Ever been to Nebraska? There's more grass and shiat here than there is turf, LOL

Cody is a good guy who never lived up to his potential at QB. He could have helped us out tremendously at TE, but he chose to transfer and remain a QB. I wish him all the luck in the world, whether I agree with his decision or not.

When Shav'd Beaver went to Tulsa instead of Michigan, it lead to a sense of disappointment among the Buckeye faithful. *that's the backstory to why I posted it*

I'd run to that contract too, even though they're $2.5 million apart (and eventually will find a compromise). He can always go back to football if baseball doesn't work out.

Lots of options.

Bubba Starling may be one of Nebraska's prized commitments in its latest recruiting class, and he may have been working out with the team this summer, but that doesn't mean he'll still be on the Cornhuskers' roster this fall. The quarterback is also a pretty good baseball player, good enough to have been drafted fifth overall by his hometown Kansas City Royals in June's MLB amateur draft...

...It's a big difference, but let's be realistic. Starling grew up a Royals fan and he's not been offered $7.5 million to play for them. Whether he wants $10 million and gets it or not, he's still got $7.5 million sitting on the table. Put yourself in his position for a second. Would you pass on that kind of money knowing that if your baseball career didn't pan out you could still come back to football in the future as so many others have?

If Bubba stays in Lincoln I think the entire city will keel over in shock. There probably aren't twelve Husker fans who truly think he's staying. I can't blame the guy, either. Why would you turn that money down?

My favorite part was when ESPN used the 90's video game to simulate the game. Rock on ESPN, Rock on. :tongue2:

Word is he's trying to squeeze $10 millie out of the Royals. Here's the thing though. If he did stay, what's going to happen? He'll probably get redshirted, the draft will come around again, and if he's not happy, the Royals can lowball him on an offer and he'll split anyway.

If he stays he'll play baseball (Erstad will definitely play him) and he won't be able to re-enter the MLB draft for three years.

That's why I don't think he'll stay. Well - that and $7 million dollars.
