Nebraska Cornhuskers (corn)

Seriously?!? I know Saturday wasn't his shining moment, but come on.
What a bunch of dicks.

Nebraska would owe Scott Frost as much as $26 million if it moves on from coach
As Nebraska’s football program continues falling to new lows, there is a way it could get a lot worse:

If school officials decided that their decision to hire Scott Frost as head coach was so wrong that they decided the best way forward would be to fire him.

Saturday, the Cornhuskers fell to 0-6 for the first time in program history with an overtime loss to Northwestern, which tied the game on a 99-yard touchdown drive that ended with 12 seconds left in regulation.

At present, moving on from Frost would mean the school would be obligated to pay Frost as much as $26 million. Frost's contract originally was for seven years, through Dec. 31, 2024. Nebraska would owe him $5 million for each year remaining through Dec. 31, 2022, with any partial year paid pro-rata. Then it would owe him $2.5 million for each of the final two years.

Still a blue blood?
From 1962 to 2001, Nebraska had a record of 398-78-5 with five national championships and 22 conference championships. Their winning percentage was .833; the next highest over that period was .761 (Penn State).

Then Nebraska got blown out by Miami in the 2001 BCS title game (Rose Bowl).

Since that loss, Nebraska is 129-85 with no conference championships and no BCS bowl appearances. Their winning percentage of .603 places them around 30th of FBS teams.

It looks like Nebraska lost their blue blood status in Pasadena on the night of January 3, 2002.

Isn't it basically Frost or bust?
In short, yes.

They were not happy with a cranky coach that had them 9-4 every year. They followed him up with a swell guy that truly burnt the program to the ground. Luckily for them, the hottest young coach on the market was from Nebraska and, even better, an alum. He seemed like the natural fit. Unfortunately for them, he's not a miracle worker and he was handed a garbage roster. He's gonna need a couple of years to build a roster capable of even competing for a division title.

In today's college football, the standard is pretty much three years...which in many cases is ridiculous. Frost probably needs 4-5 if he's capable of making them a 10-win type team. Even if he's as good a coach as people thought last year, i still think Wisconsin is their ceiling in today's CFB world. If he can get them to Bo's level of success with the occasional 11 win season mixed in, they should be thrilled. If this doesn't work out, I think they're in real danger of becoming Illinois.

Agreed.
Frost may regret leaving for Nebraska in the next few years. He left a fertile recruiting ground, for the absolute middle of nowhere. Nebraska has a hard enough time bringing in OOS talent, and has next to no talent in its own state, or even surrounding states. Its going to be awfully hard to recruit those kids he had in FL, up to Lincolon, NE. I understand wanting to bring up your alma mater, but you also need to be realistic and realize what you're getting yourself into, and also what are other options. After this stint, if(when) it doesn't work out, he's no longer the hot name, and becomes one of those guys like a Al Golden, Charlie Strong, Tyrone Willingham very quickly, where your new ceiling becomes a directional school, group of five or as a coordinator
