Nebraska Cornhuskers (corn)

Well, they didn't win last night, but if you watched the game, you saw a big step forward for this team.

1. No STUPID WTF ARE YOU DOING Penalties: Yes, there were still way too many flags, but there were none of the flags that you would say a guy was just really damn stupid.

2. Martinez, Washington, JD: All three lit it up last night and showed that the future is bright with the ball in their hands. 441 total yards for Martinez. 115 yards total offense for Washington. Spielman had 209 yards receiving.

3. New punter: Seems the Lightborn experiment is over in Lincoln as Issac Armstrong punts and promptly drops one inside the 10 on his first punt. Getting a punter that doesn't fall down or consistantly foot throws a ball 20 yards is wonderful.

4. It was Bucky in Cheeseland. They never have holding called on them, and I saw tons of uncalled holds last night.

All in all, it was improvement. I thought Bucky would do what they eventually did.

I did laugh on the long TD by Taylor at the stiff arm he threw on Bootle. Shows that physically, not quite there, but effort was, as he is just a frosh.

Frost and Chip Kelly winless..I remember a certain Coach stepped into a team with 6 wins and NCAA sanctions and i think they went undefeated. Just saying.
To be fair, Jim Tressel's recruiting was significantly better than Jim Mora or Mike Riley. Urban walked into a pretty sweet situation...a young, talented roster that just needed somebody to whip them into shape.

Who was the safety that tried to forearm-shiver the running back to the ground, but just ended up deflecting Breaux?

I have had a feeling since I first saw Martinez that OSU may be getting them at the wrong time of the year.

A guy with Martinez upside and a receiver like Spielman is all it takes to gash the shit out of this OSU back 7.

That said, Nebraska still has to play defense but this is one to keep an eye on.

Well, they are 0-5 and it is no exaggeration to say they ARE better than their record. Still, they are not even close to being in Ohio State's class this sason; it's a home game and it shouldn't even be close. Their game before Ohio State is with Bethune-Cookman which could be their first win of the season, if so, "at Ohio State" could be their "hangover game"....

56 to scUM 42 to Purdue and 41 to Wisconsin. Even if Martinez lights the world on fire, i'd still take our defense to get a few stops before theirs.

I think Frost is the right guy. It is just going to take a little longer than Husker fans would like.

That's the Big Ten. That's what I'm complaining about in every close game. Look on any message board. "They never call holding on this team!!!"
I'm not arguing with you - they don't call holding against Wisconsin. In Madison or out. But find yourself in a close match with Penn State or Xichigan or anyone, you'll see that Wisconsin isn't the only team who benefits from non-called holding penalties.

(Note that it has been scientifically proven that, for some reason, Ohio State actually gets called for MORE holding penalties than they deserve. And by "scientifically proven", I mean that it's a detailed survey of the opinions of everyone who is me.)

Frost said after the scUM game that it was rock bottom. I circled 11/3 (which happens to be my birthday as well) as the real bottom of the barrel.

Bethune Cookman may not beat us on the field...maybe...but they got the band licked.

The defense hasn't had a circumstantial stop since Colorado. They'd gotten progressively worse each week until last week, until it seemed like some of the bleeding had stopped.

I figured them to win 2-3 games this year with the current schedule they had at the beginning of the season. Could be just as bad next year. It's gonna take time, and most folks around here are patient, after Calla-Bo-Riley.

Yes probably the right guy so long as folks understand that this isn’t going to be like it was under Osborne. Those days are over.

Blue hairs be dammed, I just want us to be consistently in the freaking hunt for conference championships and titles. Can't do that if you can't stop opponents and score points.

That's the Big Ten. That's what I'm complaining about in every close game. Look on any message board. "They never call holding on this team!!!"

Some of the holds were like, man, I was screaming at the TV. Nothing. Blatant holds, too. B1G refs are among the worst in the nation.

Yeah ummm whining about officiating and holding in particular is so weak sauce. Kinda like weather arguments.

Scott Frost explains why Nebraska blocked Greg Bell from transferring to Oregon State

When Greg Bell chose to transfer from Nebraska late last week, the Husker football program granted a release from his scholarship but blocked him from all Big Ten teams, nonconference opponents through the 2021 season and Oregon State.

The Beavers have taken three Husker transfers in the last two months — linebacker Avery Roberts, quarterback Tristan Gebbia and receiver Tyjon Lindsey. NU coach Scott Frost said Thursday that Oregon State enjoys an advantage in attracting transfers because of its academic calendar and quarters system, which begins school later and allows students to add classes into early October.

Oregon State was able, for example, to successfully enroll Lindsey, who just left NU last week.

"Right now, with the way the transfer rule is, quarters teams are at an advantage," Frost said. "We couldn't get a player in — if they wanted to transfer here — right when the season started. Some of these quarters teams are still taking them. I think that's an unintended consequence of the rule they made, but it doesn't create competitive balance."

Frost said he had "no doubt" that Roberts, Gebbia and Lindsey were in touch with "coaches who were formerly here." In this case, that'd be Trent Bray, now an assistant with the Beavers, and former Nebraska coach Mike Riley, an analyst at Oregon State who's going to be coaching in a new spring football league in 2019.

"It's hard for me to criticize (Oregon State coaches) without being hypocritical," Frost said, noting that he talked to Central Florida quarterback McKenzie Milton on his birthday Wednesday night. "But at the same time, if someone is trying to contact our kids while they're still our kids and trying to get them to transfer, then I'm not going to be a fan of that continuing to happen. I'm not saying it did happen."

Bell, who signed with NU out of Arizona Western College, was not recruited by Nebraska's former staff, which did not sign any junior college players during the Mike Riley era.

A new NCAA rule that goes into effect Oct. 15 makes Nebraska's blockage list moot anyway. Athletes will be able to transfer wherever they like without a school's permission, entering a nationwide database that allows schools to contact the athletes. Nebraska, in theory, can do the exact same thing.

Frost doesn't know what will happen when the new rule goes in place.

"It's already gotten a little messier this year, I'm sure it'll continue to get messy," Frost said. "The bottom line is, in this day and age, a lot of people want what they want and they want it now. There's not a lot of patience, there's not a lot of willingness to fight through and change their circumstance. People have the tendency to think the grass might be greener somewhere else. I hope it doesn't become the wild west and (like) college basketball with everybody transferring."

So, basically, he's saying that Riley and other coaches are souring the waters, then poaching talent as well. Damn, Mr. Rogers...
