Nebraska Cornhuskers (corn)

You can't whack the guy after one year though. That will send the program into a death spiral.

I'm not sure what the solution is for Nebraska. They don't have the homegrown recruiting base, and they only won championships after St. Tom sold his soul and went all out thug. I see them as pretty much an Iowa type program unless they luck into a perfect coaching hire or turn back to the dark side.

There is absolutely no excuse for Nebraska being this bad. None. They may have recruiting issues, but they still have enough talent not to lose most of the games they have lost this year.

Death Spiral? As opposed to now? It's like we're Maverick and Goose in a flat spin because we flew through Iceman's jet wash. We know that if we eject that Goose will break his neck on the canopy, but we can always get another back seater to fly with us.

The first person that needs to be whacked is Harvey Pearlman. He's probably Public Enemy #2 in Nebraska right now, right behind Shawn Eichorst.

Want to know douche? Right before this morning's painful press conference for Riley, Eichorst throws this hot garbage out there:

Dear Husker Family,

Good morning.

I want to express my sincere appreciation to every Husker fan who has come to Memorial Stadium this season to cheer on the Big Red; who has traveled hundreds or thousands of miles to proudly wear the red and white in visiting stadiums; and who has passionately supported our student-athletes, our head coach, our assistant coaches and staff. Your support and patience as Mike Riley rebuilds our storied program one brick at a time mean the world to our young men, our staff and our university.

While many are understandably disappointed in the current record of the football team and the heartbreakingly close losses we have suffered, I am confident the future is bright because I see it in the eyes of our players, coaches and staff and I am impressed by what I know is going on behind the scenes. Our coaches are developing our student-athletes and, though the consistent victories are not there yet, I am confident they will come. I have witnessed how our young men battle every day in practice and fight to the finish on game days in the face of great adversity. Football can be a humbling game of inches and seconds and our players have laid everything on the line while making no excuses. The prospective student-athletes looking to make Nebraska home possess athletic talent, academic potential, and high character making for a bright future. Coach Riley has a vision and a plan and is committed to providing the Husker faithful with a sustained winner which will compete annually for championships.

As I have said many times, it is an honor and privilege to represent Nebraska, and I am humbled and care deeply about the men and women I have a chance to work with every day here. The incredible amount of hours they put in and the sacrifices they all make to represent Nebraska are truly remarkable. In two decades as a student-athlete and athletics administrator, I have had the opportunity to learn and work alongside some incredible people at five different institutions. What the best administrators and coaches have in common is a consistent commitment to teaching young minds to do things the right way and to instill a values system that emphasizes hard work, discipline, loyalty, teamwork, compassion and excellence. Those principles coupled with a positive attitude generally result in championships.

Your continued support is what makes Nebraska special and together, we will do great things. Thank you again for your incredible passion and support. We look forward to another home sellout and an electric environment on Saturday as we come together to cheer on our team against Michigan State.

Have a great week and Go Big Red!
Shawn Eichorst

Dude didn't even tell his head coach he was doing it. He TEXTED his head coach about it in the same fashion he told the players he fired Bo.

As for Riley - I have to give credit to him for manning up momentarily as he answered non-softball questions today. Only for a second, as in the same breath, he was sucking Perlman and Eichorst's asses as he spoke for being so awesome.

BTW - guess who was #1 on the coaches' hot seat list this week? Give you a hint...

He coaches at Nebraska.

Provided that he's performing his job, you can't fire the Chancellor because the foosball program is struggling. That's a recipe for the rest of the nation to view Nebraska as a football factory for a generation, not to mention probably kissing any chance of getting back into the AAU goodbye. The AD is another story.

Their shot at getting back into AAU is long long gone.
Recent additions have shown you need to be in the top35 or so.... that's never happening. Nor would be it very logical to relocate the entire med school just so it fits AAU's geographical criteria.

Not sure what the Chancellor has to do w/anything... but Riley is already a lame duck coach. Every year he's there will be a recruiting class flushed down the toilet, along with the crap results.

They're in a tough spot. They simply can't fire Riley after one year if they want anybody worth a damn to even listen to them. They need to ride it out for another year or two and hope he can recruit decent enough to give the next guy something to work with.

As for the next guy? I thought Craig Bohl could be their "Tressel" of sorts, but he's stinking it up at Wyoming, so no. Their best bet might be to hope a former Husker like Scott Frost can actually come in there and turn things around. "Hot young coordinator" is almost always a risky proposition, though.

Rough days ahead for the Big Red.

Their best bet is to hire Oregon State's coach again... Andersen has to know that program will never go anywhere and willing to take a lifeline, proven success in B1G West, should know how to beat Wisconsin (Corn has struggled mightily in this area), Wiscy games would be personal and entertaining from my outside perspective, decent recruiter, no admissions issues.
