Game Thread Nebraska at tOSU, Sat. Oct. 26, 12pm ET, FOX

See what over 150 "twitter refs" had to say......

Spoiler: Most said it wasn't targeting, including this one:

Nope

My biggest issue was the double fucking. If its a hit on a defenseless player, then it can't be a catch. A catch happens when a player has the ball and makes a football move. Once he makes a football move how can he still be defenseless? At that point he has to be a runner and therefore should be able to be blasted. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever and is one the the worst overall calls I have ever seen. 35 fucking yards.

Just sayin: I just found this.....

Was the 2nd penalty a personal foul called on Day? That could explain it if is was 1) 15 yards for the targeting and 2) 15 yards for a dead ball personal foul (i.e. bumping the referee call on Day).

They didn't call a personal foul on Day and he's lucky they didn't.

They DID call a sideline warning. The first one is only a warning.

I’ll be honest, I have not seen much “passionate” football by any teams.
UNLV vs Boise St was a great game last night. Two well coached teams.

The job Clark Lea has done at Vanderbilt is exceptional. The job Cignetti is doing at Indiana is damn near miraculous….

There are teams that have taken massive leaps forward and play with a passion that is wholly missing on this OSU roster.

That last drive by the Buckeyes was a hair on fire situation. A great coach should be able to harness that passion and make it happen throughout the game. The great teams, with leadership from the players and coaching staff, start out like that and keep the foot on the gas for 4 quarters. I haven’t seen that much during the Day era.

I’ve been a Ryan Day apologist for years and they’ve underperformed so badly this year, he’s lost me…

This is a $21M roster with studs across the board, and they play some of THE MOST uninspired, undisciplined, and soft football imaginable.

The talent will remain elite but the whispers around the program are that the priority within the WHAC is NFL development over elite teams. And it shows. Whether it’s on defense where the front 4 pressures don’t match what the DB’s are doing.

Where you take a kid like Lincoln Kienholz last year who had zero development all year in the name of Kyle McCord.

The program has “juice” bc they churn out great pros. Which is nice……but the talent on the roster doesn’t match the product they get as a “team” on the field except for periodic splash plays or Jeremiah Smith just being a freak athlete.

They come out week after week and sleep-walk through games that should be over by Halftime. What Oregon is doing to a ranked Illinois team is what we should be doing to a Nebraska team that lost by close to 50 last weekend.

There is something toxic within the program right now, and it’s absolutely in the culture. I can’t believe I’ve swung this much against Day after defending him against all the losses to Michigan…..but it’s hard to see so many programs around the country playing solid, passionate football…..and OSU is pissing away the most talented roster in OSU’s history. It’s crazy….
I agree in a way. I don’t know what it is but we just lack something with Day it feels like.

I know it’s about the NFL, NIL, and we have good kids but for example today it was nice to see JT freak out on the field and show some attitude. I think our teams just lack an edge or shank ability as Bobby Carpenter would say.

Normally Day buries teams like this but yet it’s another week after a bye where we are just stuck in the mud. Whatever it is though I have to say I’m not sure we can get it turned around or not.

Not being nasty on the LOS isn’t something you can really “coach” I think.

JFC I'm not one to call for a coach's head. Especially one with Day's resume. But for fuck's sake, when is enough enough? This team was totally unprepared for this game. Do hyou think Nebraska, with its rich history, is going to roll over for the mighty Buckss? They were fucking EXPOSED by Oregon. Not sure what else to say, this game was a gigantic shit show from kickoff to kneel down. Day is incredibly lucky to win this game. They were outclassed and outcoached the whole game.
That's more than a bit excessive. The game completely hinged on the LT position. He was not capable, and everything fell apart. That is the fault of recruiting and coaching the last 2 weeks for sure.....but your post makes it seem like all phases of the game were falling all over themselves. The entire performance was because our LT was dog shit today. That's all it really boiled down to.

Glad we didn't lose, but feels like we did because I think some things are not fixable if we want to reach our goals. Waiting for a wake up call sort of game, but at this point it's feeling like it's not coming and we have at least one more loss coming.

Coaching and scheme is woefully inept. We don't have a LT now. Defense is awful on the rush and does not consistently get a rush to the passer. Coverage looks so much worse than last year with the same guys. We can't run the ball yet again. 3 and outs on offense. Players are clearly frustrated or dejected. Crowd is dead silent most of the came based on the foregoing when they see all the same things.

Based on what I've seen, we've got 2 and maybe 3 more regular season losses with the best roster we've had in my lifetime. To be clear, there is not one issue, we've got quite a few. I'm not throwing in the towel or anything, but it's getting disheartening and we're not improving on the same issues that have plauged us. If we play like that next week we're going to get smoked.

Thankfully, after reflecting on the game further, I'm much more concerned. They need a miraculous development at LT, otherwise it's up to an inconsistent defense somehow worse than last year to carry the team.

It doesn't make sense that so many guys return and yet it feels like a regression in multiple areas with no improvements through 7 games. Way too much to fix on a team of 3-4 yr starters, and it's a total failure of Day and the program to be at this point this season. I don't get it, just tired.

So we don’t have a 3rd tackle….obviously. Can we package 2 wr for a LT. Inniss and Ballard..lol
