ND/Weis various topics

first of all, ND has 3, OSU has 3, on that schedule. All three of OSU's games could be on ABC. But that's beside the point, nobody here is claiming ND does not have a national fanbase.

You claimed OSU does not have a national fanbase, which is comical.

I never said that OSU did not have fans all across the country, it's not like people dont move from Ohio. Besides the 3 ND games on ABC think of all the others on NBC.

How many ND games can Mili get on regular/cable non-football package TV and how many OSU games can he get?

Face it, there is a reason ND is the media darling.

again, this is not OSU vs ND. This is ND Chief's following statement vs reality:
OSU is a state school with it's fans either living in Ohio, from Ohio or go to OSU! Thats it!
it sounds now like you're arguing that nobody likes OSU unless they have ties to the university, which is also false. Are you proud of people who like ND solely b/c they are catholic, and can't name 5 players on the team?

And there are not thousands of OSU fans who cant name 5 OSU players as well? Please...

And yes I do believe that most OSU fans are from Ohio or went to Ohio. I am darn sure there are one heck of alot more ND fans in Ohio than there are OSU fans in Indiana.

based on what? Indianapolis (equidistant from both) has as many OSU fans as ND fans during my 4 years in that area... or are we only counting NW Indiana, which is part of 'michiana' more than indiana? Central IN is dominated by IU/PU fans... and I can only imagine that trend continues in southern IN (IU & KY fans).

every fanbase has nominal fans... I have never heard someone label OSU fans as bandwagon, nominal fans... that is a common stereotype of ND fans.

The games I had to get on GamePlan last year were:

San Diego State
Indiana
Illinois
Northwestern(?)

All other games were available out here in Hawaii on either ABC, ESPN, or ESPN2.

NDC: The one I liked was the ND fans on ABC tv, just prior to start of the Buck's whipping of Chuck and his squad in the Jan. '06 Fiesta. Their sign read: "Anti Buckeye Catholics". (a mirthful play on ABC natch). I laughed my ass off at their zeal and truthfulness in the moment. Imho, ND football popularity, depending upon your team's record, is mainly supported by blissfully happy Catholics who, easily, and with good conscience, adopt ND as their college sport toy. In addition, of course, you ND people have your much smaller crowd (depending upon your record), of traditional ND grads/alumni and local Indiana zealots of note.

Sure does.... ALUMNI!!

So what the hell is your point? First you say OSU has no fans outside of Ohio, then you semi-back-track and seem to be saying that, well....what in the hell are you saying? Ohio State has well over 400,000 alumni living all over the world...Notre Dame cannot make that claim, nor can many other institutions...we have one of the biggest WORLDWIDE alumni bases in the country. Now if you are saying there are more people who blindly support ND without any real affiliation or knowledge of the school, you might be right...and you can have them. But if you are somehow trying to claim that Ohio State doesn't have legions of fans nationally and internationally (including alumni, of course), well...you're completely pooched on that one.

And by the way, one more point to consider...yes, ND is on TV a lot. But consider this: ND is definitely an emotional draw...but not exclusively a positive emotional draw. Networks love to put them on TV because there's a whole lot of people who love them...and there's quite a few who tune in hoping they get their asses whupped...so being on TV in and of itself means they draw viewers...but proves nothing about fan base.

Ding ding ding...we have a winner.

Big Ten teams will have to think this "independent game against the sisters for the poor" thing through.

Is it really in their long-term interest to play Notre Dame?

Do they really want these guys to play more than a third of their season against nearby Big Ten teams, so that they can project an image of being strong when they then cut through the "sisters for the poor" games on their schedule prior to USC?

In my opinion, not. Cut them down to size. They want to travel? Let the bastards travel.
