ND at MSU, Time for the BIG to get Serious

cincibuck

You kids stay off my lawn!
Out of the rankings at the beginning of the year, up to 22 when they crushed Navy, up to 20 after beating Purdue and headed into the top 10 if Sparty doesn't step up and get the job done.

Come on Spartans, put Kelly on the scissors lift and save this season.

You guys really need to stop making scissor lift jokes. For the love of Hod, a person died and people poke in at it. His name is Declan Sullivan and some people use his death as a punch line. I have no problem if you don't like Brian Kelly. In fact, I don't even like the guy that much. I don't even care that you hate Notre Dame. But please stop making jokes about a kid who is no longer with us. He has parents. How would you feel if you lost a kid and saw people using his death as a cheap joke? I could care less about the Notre Dams hatred. I even understand some of it. But show some respect.

I don't entirely disagree with what you're saying here, but let's be clear: nobody here is making fun of the kid. The ridicule is directed at the asshole who put the kid in that terrible position. While some of the comments in that vein may end up being a bit tasteless, the ridicule is richly deserved still.

All very good points, A Pac. As an aside, will the Irish be wearing their new Adidas helmets this weekend.

p.s.; it's not directed at the kid. It's directed at the mind numbingly arrogant institution that killed the kid and then played on his family's domer heart strings to not sue the fuck out them. Declan Sullivan was a victim of a heartless and evil institution that put the welfare of its football program ahead of his life. May the God that they profess so strongly to believe in have mercy on their wretched souls.

Complete agreement with jlb, but what about the rape victim? Please advise us on how to proceed with that victim.

Why does the BIG have to get serious?

The BIG won't be on the field, only sparty will be...

[censored] the "My conference is superior" bull[Mark May]

The problem is--and I've been saying this for years--is that the Big Ten's reputation has reached a tipping point. It's to the point that an undefeated Ohio State will be left out of the NC game (or possibly the playoff) in favor of a 1 loss SEC runner up, Texas/Okie or USC/Oregon.

Until there is an 8 or 16 team playoff, perceptions of conference strength do matter, and right now, the Big Ten is hovering just slightly around the level of "Big East With A History."

I'm not saying I don't want to see Sparty beat Ntre Ame, but if they do take care of business and continue to win, they will be there in the end.

College football is cyclical, and while the Big Ten has almost always been the Big 2 and the little 8 (or 9 or 10), the other schools need to at least be competitive. It's not for lack of resources.

The SEC will eventually go down. It's already started honestly - Florida is mortal, Arkansas is schizoid, UGA looks good by comparison, Tennecheat still isn't that great and the Mississippi schools just aren't that good either. Eventually the sugar high that LSU and Bama are on will go away, they just have good coaches in Satan and the Booger Eater right at the moment who are able to take advantage of the relative mediocrity of the rest the SEC West (Auburn is 0-2 right now and no lock to be ULM either) and their joke of a non-conference schedule.

Are they the best right now? Sure thing. But it won't remain that way. Texas isn't what it was 5 years ago and Oklahoma is a paper tiger as is Oregon. USC, I think, is legit like LSU and Bama.

If Ohio State returns to being Ohio State, everything will take care of itself, conference perceptions or not.

I don't think winning will do anything for the Big Ten. Beating ND these days is like beating a more decorated MAC school(or Boise). If they win it'll just be the typical "ND was overrated anyway". That or yet another excuse for the SPiN to bring up the S**. Losing however will just increase the scrutiny.

Notre Dame from what I saw in person last saturday is above average with some weapons. I do not think they will be able to run the ball very much. (Not that they really try to do so) Defensively they are ok. Should be very interesting. I pick MSU by at least 10.

You know a MAC school that will jump 10 spots in the rankings with two wins at the beginning of the season? You know a MAC school that can beat Purdue and make the cover of SI? When you walk around in NYC, Boston, DC, San Francisco, LA, Denver, Chicago, Miami, Phoneix, New Orleans, do you see fifty folks wearing Toledo/Central Michigan/et al hats?

My point exactly.

I can't lie that the way ND handled some things was innapropriate to say the least but I just don't want anyone's death to be a punch line. They're human beings.

The tale allegation thing is what has me speechless. We never really heard any updates on that and it something that needs to be accounted for.
