NCAA punishes USC - Reggie Bush, OJ Mayo, Dwayne Jarrett, Joe McKnight investigation

Speaking of which, Dodd must be writing some article on tOSU because it's obvious he's on campus as of writing this article.
If I were Gene Smith, I'd be furious right now.

Dodd wrote this:
I talked to a powerful AD at a BCS conference school who is former NCAA infractions committee member and who also dealt with Garrett during conference meetings at one time. It's no surprise that this AD said Garrett was clueless when it came to NCAA bylaws. When conference officials discussed pending NCAA legislation, they made sure to read it in advance so they could speak about it at conference meetings. Not Garrett, this AD said, who covered his lack of knowledge with a brusque attitude.
This is clearly Gene Smith (Infractions Committee member, worked in the Pac-10 alongside Garrett from his tenure at ASU). I guessed this bit might have come from Smith even before getting to the other quotes that evince Dodd is on campus talking to Smith, Tressel, and Pryor.

I'm sure Smith gave him that particular tidbit on the condition of anonymity. Dodd didn't go out of his way to obfuscate it.

But the Heisman Trophy deserves better than Reggie Bush. USC admitted as much when it announced it was returning its replica of the 2005 award to the Heisman Trust. Bush should do the same with his copy, but he won't. He wouldn't know the truth if it grabbed him by the face mask.

...

Bush was a natural target for the parasites. And according to the NCAA's investigation, he willingly, enthusiastically and arrogantly had his hand out. He can lend his name to all the charitable foundations he wants, but nothing changes his USC legacy as a cheater.

...

There isn't any wiggle room on a Heisman ballot. It says it right there, in bright red letters: "The recipient must be in compliance with the bylaws defining an NCAA student athlete."

Bush was a football field away from compliance. He ran right past NCAA rule 12.3.1.2, the one that prohibits the acceptance of extra benefits. He wasn't a student-athlete. He was an athlete on the take.

...

Reggie Bush doesn't deserve the Heisman Trophy he won for his play at the University of Southern California - ESPN

Here's a copy of the letter the incoming USC President sent to announce Haden as AD, and the returning of USC's copy of Bush's Heisman.

The new VP of compliance will report to a Sr. VP in Administration, rather than to anybody in the athletic department. That seems like a good move.

http://www.sportingnews.com/college...-will-strip-usc-title-if-it-loses-ncaa-appeal

IRVING, Texas — BCS executive director Bill Hancock said Tuesday that if USC loses its NCAA
appeal of Reggie Bush-related sanctions, the school's 2004 national championship will be vacated.

With Bush as its star running back, the Trojans crushed No. 2 Oklahoma 55-19 in the 2005 Orange
Bowl. It was USC's lone BCS championship under Pete Carroll.

I guess the LSU battle with USC now leaves the corn dogs yelling a "No Peat!!" victory cry

Interesting that USC has removed Bush's Heisman but none of their tainted "national championships" from the media guide cover.

Scapegoating continues at UNLV West.
Yeah, they don't take credit for his Heisman, but do take the wins, bowls, NC, All American recognition and NFL status. Weird.
