I just "finished" my first non-OD online game. I was Georgia Tech and he was Miami. I used the Georgia Tech playbook, and he couldn't stop the run...then I started passing too, and he finally conceded defeat with the score 24-0 early in the third quarter. I honestly don't think that the kid knew he was doing anything wrong, but the crazy bastard kept going for it on 4th down, and ran a lot of hurry-up. Luckily fanatic schooled me in the hurry-up last year, so this guy stood no chance whatsoever. 3 picks, with one being a pick 6, and one rushing and one passing TD...poor bastard never had a chance.

Of course, it was a 'play now' situation, and the guy was probably considered a level 5 or lower, but still... I had to get my confidence back after losing 3 straight games in our two PS3 ODs. :tongue2:

I'm at the in-laws right now and played a game on their HD. I said it before and I'll say it again...holy shit.

However, I now fully believe that those with HDTVs have a huge advantage against those like me with a regular one. I could actually see the WR fight to get open! Usually, when call a pass play, I have to wait for my WRs to get into view. Sometimes they never show up because the DB never left them off the line.

Sweet! I am in the search for a good HDTV for my new place...would a 32" 1080p do the trick? Any recommendations anyone?

Unless you are going to be using the monitor as a computer screen, a 32" 1080p TV is a complete waste. I'd have to dig it up, but there's a chart out there which shows how big the TV must be and how close to it you must sit to get any value out of a 1080P TV.

What is your budget for the TV? Send me a PM if you want.

Here's a comment from last year that is still quite relevant today... particularly if you're looking for something smaller:

Like you said also, no one broadcasts in 1080p. Not everyone is even in HD yet, how long before 1080p is the standard? 3 years? 5? By then, how much will that same TV cost? I'm guessing you'll be able to pick it up and have a second HDTV (1080p for this one) for around the price of one 1080p HDTV now.
Here's the chart I was talking about:

I would say I sit about 3-6 feet at all times, I love being close to the action. I'm thinking maximum is at around $600 before tax. If its any higher it would have to be an amazing deal. I want a 37 or 40 incher...what do you think?

Vizio VOJ320 32" 1080p FullHD LCD HDTV $399 - I don't love Vizio's, but that's a good deal.
Vizio 32" VO320E 720p LCD HDTV $349 or $339

Personally, I like going with a 42" plasma, but that is also pricier... and LCDs have longer life.

Here's a great couple deals on bigger but pricier TVs:
$697 50" Panasonic VIERA 720p Plasma 600Hz HDTV @ Sam's Club
Samsung PN50B450 50" 720p Plasma TV $734

go to slickdeals.net, type in hdtv in the search box, and you'll see tons of deals, feedback on how good the deals are. You can even see expired deals to get a gauge for how common these kinds of sales are.

We saved up for a 50" HDTV, but we also sit about 8-12 feet away.

I owned that exact model, before upgrading to a newer series (higher specs,if wondering why),and it was an exceptional tv..I really like samsung tv's..You get what you pay for as in most cases in life.

If you're worried about gaming or even watching sports. At that size, you'll want to look closer at refresh rate, than whether it's 720p or 1080p. Another reason that I play my PS3 from a 22" monitor is because my 50" plasma only has a 17 ms(60 hertz) response time.

Newegg has a 37" 720p panasonic with 8ms response time (120 hz) for $619.00 and free shipping. Link.

Man thanks for all the help guys, I'm looking to buy probably in the next few weeks as I move to my new place in September...

How big of an issue does the refresh rate make...say I have a 37 incher with a 8ms response rate? That good for gaming?

That 50" Samsung has a .001ms response time (600 Hz) for $115 more than the 37" LCD Iron listed, and is a lot bigger.

Plasmas are older technologies, but they also have a lot richer blacks. The trade-off is they don't tend to last as long (the bulbs can burn out).

Another comparison to Iron's 37" deal
Philips 42" 1080p 120Hz 2MS LCD HDTV $699 @ Dell Home First post, please be gentle. This thing seems to drop in price every few days.

Previous deals:
$749 7/21
$811 7/17

I think that it makes a big difference. Of course, I went from a 17ms to a 2ms, so it completely eliminated any tearing/blurring of the faster moving images. I assume that an 8ms TV would at least greatly reduce that. If you can't find what the response time of the TV is, then it's probably safe to assume that it's a 17ms/60 hertz TV. Otherwise, they would advertise the speed.
