NCAA 08 Game Impressions

I was orginally not too happy about the 30 fps on PS3, but after playing it on the 360 & the PS3 i'm not worried at all..

The recruiting is awesome, much much better than previous versions IMO

Gameplay is typical NCAA gameplay.. it's good, still room for improvment though.. finally the reciever are dragging their toes to stay in bounds.. cant wait to toy with all the animations

One thing I noticed, once in awhile the announcers get behind, and announce a play after it's happened.. also while playing the 360 for an hour, 3 injuries, playing my dynasty there were 4 injuries in the first game.. luckily only one was on tOSU (TB) and Henton stepped up nicely for the 1 quarter I needed him :)

Played at least 5 hours, with no injuries on the 360. Did Charlie let the grass grow out again? :pissed:

I've seen a number of injuries throughout 8 weeks of a season. Most are minor injuries that only keep a player out for a series or a quarter. I did knock Kent State's QB out of the season though with a torn rotator cuff. He was a pretty good runner too, with about an 85 SPD rating. Things became much easier for me when their backup came in.

I think I also have lost Alex Barrow for the season with an injury.

I take it back, I have had a few minor 'will return' injuries. Nothing more than a few stingers/etc.

Note: my HD isn't here yet (FRI), so I've only played 2-3 dynasty games back to back without restarts.

I have only played one game so far but it seems as if my players don't run nearly as fast as they did on '07...Larry Grant has like 88 speed and looks like he is in slow-mo coming off the edge. I think I'll probably just have to adjust better and read the controls, because I could kill on the d-line in '07 with being able to push the "y" button to jump the snap and get through quick. As far as visors go, I am a bit disappointed they couldn't do better. My best guess is that if they put clear or a different color on, they distort the players face or cause some kind of glitch on 360. They did indeed used to have orange visors, which looked sweet with Miami and USC's jerseys.

RB07, Give it some time. The overall speed of the game seems to be slowed down a bit, but the speed differentiations between each respective player is more realistic. Also, I think Grant's SPD is only 84 or 82. Freeman has 86 SPD or so if you're looking for the fastest LBer to use.

A little dissapointed with the 360 version.

I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but the corners are very VERY smart in this game.

The first thing I did was grind it to All-American, then do a play now, tOSU vs. Penn State (which I thought was odd, I thought they'd normally select Mich as the default opponent).

First play of the game, Beanie gets injured, he's out for the game.

Justin King ended up picking off three passes...

I can't count how many fumbles happened, though. There were a lot.

Defense is pretty difficult to play, I thought that when I hit the knockdown button, Freeman would wait for another second before putting his hands up, and by that time the ball was already in the endzone.

I like the running game, I busted a nice 15 yarder up the gut which was very refreshing.

Passing game will be very difficult, I think.

I think I need to get used to it, but it looks and feels pretty nice.

My one complaint so far on the 360 is my damn center false starting. He's the god damn center! He's not going to just take off to block someone without snapping the ball!!!! HAHA. That's probably happened about 3 times in the few games I've played. Overall, I'm really pleased with the game thus far. Jenkins is a stud

My impression is that Amazon.com sucks. What's the point of pre-ordering the goddamn game if it's not gonna show on the release date? Why bother paying for it in f-ing December if I am better off to pay for it in July and get it on time? :pissed:

Ok, this is what I've been able to come up with so far. After locating your top recruits, find out what their 3 main areas of interest are (1 most, and 2 very highs). Then give them hard sells on those interest points and keep the little face in the corner happy. Don't talk to them too long or they'll get pissed and hang up on you.

Once your school is in their top 5, you can schedule them to visit a home game. The help scroll on the bottom says that you can do it when they are in your top 3. I tried a lot of visits last night with people in my top 5, and they never committed. I tried a few in the top 3 and they didn't either.

The only commit I've received so far was from a 5 star RB that I didn't remember ever putting on my recruiting board. I think I was his number one team, I called to find his 3 likes, and then I offered him a scholly. He then committed to me on the spot. I still don't really know what I did too land him, other than he must have just been really wanting an offer.

Also, it seems as though you can offer anyone a scholly that's on your board.

I think it's cool some commit on the spot. 3 of the guys I offered the next year committed on the spot. They were all from Ohio, and all had OSU #1. Essentially they are diehard Buckeye fans. So in the first week of recruiting look for Ohio guys that have OSU #1 if you want some quick commits.

There is also a lot less "what the hell?" type commitments. Guys usually only change their leader after a visit to a game or an in home visit by the coach (excluding the first couple weeks where it really shakes out). I find that 90% of the guys that have me #1 usually commit (unless they have a late visit to a big name school) and it's damn near impossible to get a guy if you are not #1 on his list after he visits. Anymore I just drop those guys and move on to more lower end 4*'s.

BTW...I simmed most of the first season (only tough game not simmed was Wisconsin who I beat 24-17...recruiting got too grueling and I needed a break). Guess what, undefeated National Champs. Beat Michigan 32-31 simmed, and beat Florida, yep, rematch, in the NC game (also simmed). Wells won the Walker, and was 5th in the Heisman.

yes, i agree.. much more fun and realistic.. saw this on madden mania "feels like college football"

So no visibile difference between the two? Or just not significant?
360's seemed a tad-bit smoother but the ps3 looks better, granted its on a HD projector.. not really noticable unless you're sitting there thinking "fucking xbox has 60 fps and i dont" and looking for it.

one thing i wish they would have done is the 3d-grass that madden sported on the ps3..

problem? you mean blessing  no more bullshit passes from what I can tell, im sure a few will sneak in but this will make online and 2 player games much more realistic. Boeckman had no problem in my season opener going 9/10 for 86 yards, short and accurate baby just the way i like. Beanie grounded out 4 TDs and 250 yards while Saine had somewhere around 40 or 50 and a TD. Every deep ball i tried in my "test" game got knocked down or was off the mark.

All in all, I like it alot.. cant believe it was 60 bucks :( thats alot of beer..

Cant wait to leave work and go play.. got 5 recruits coming in for my second game.. i remember in last years game i thought, i'll have them all come to the scUM game to hook them as buckeyes.. by the time the game came around, they all were gone

That does not happen much this year. Very few players commit early. I didn't get one single commit in my first season until after the Michigan game. I did the same thing you did and lined them up early. Problem was none commited, and in the end got swayed by another team late in the season. In my 2nd season I am waiting. I am actually playing the 2nd season instead of simming most of it, so it will take a while. Yet I have not lost a recruit yet to an early commit.

Gotta say I am impressed so far. MUCH improved over 07 (360 version). Very smooth, graphically much more realistic. 07 was overdone on graphics, to the point that everything looked fake. As pathetic as it sounds, the campus legend mode is amazing. I created an option QB, won the state title in high school. Was drafted as a 5 star, ended up going to Boise St (cause I could start there immediately). Tearin up in college so far
