NCAA 08 Game Impressions

This game is tough.

Hahaha. I used to be very good on the ps2, but I'm getting worked over by people whom i've easily beaten in the past.

I don't know what it is. I never cheesed on ps2, but I guess I just got used to tendencies.

I play on 360 and I agree that it is harder than 07 was. The passing game difficulty is very good in that it is very difficult to throw the deep ball with a bad QB, and you have to make the right reads in the passing game. The running game is a little bit too easy I think because there are too many broken tackles.

Eh, turnovers are still rather shaky. I'm in my second season with tOSU, and although the first season went rather swimmingly (still a lot of fumbles, most of which got overturned), I just finished a game with Wiscy in which I picked them off 9 (that's NINE) times.:!

Seems lime overcompensation for the difficulty to get interceptions in the past.

One thing i noticed on the 360 and Ps2 versions of the game is that there is twice as many broken tackles as 07, Its pushing the limit of too many broken tackles. 360 version of the game i think has incredible graphics and the gameplay is pretty damn good, i like the changes they made from the 07 version for 360. But the Next Generation football games take a while to get used to in comparison to the ps2 and Xbox

Well, I tried out the Legend mode on PS3. Theres some cool things and some annoyances here. Its cool starting as a rookie, going through your high school playoffs, then getting taken based on your play ability or pick your own school and work your way up the ranks.
I first tried playing as a WR. I'll tell you this, its pretty difficult moving up the ranks as a WR, and if you follow all your routes in your HS games, you're not going to get the ball often. Once I started my college career, I found that if I don't always run my route, I get the ball a lot more often. Comeback routes, out routes, and play action slants seem to have the best chance of you getting the ball, but they're not foolproof. Occasionally, if I see a hole in the defense, like in a zone, I'll run there and let the QB play pitch-n-catch with me. I started getting the ball a LOT more after doing this, as the CPU playin' QB for you is hesitant to even throw into 1-on-1 coverage. Once I started using this method, I shot up to 2nd string WR before quitting, starting a new game and trying QB out.
I found there were a few other methods to increase your practice points to help your player gain attributes and move up the ladder on the team. If you're a wide receiver, for instance, you can lead block on running plays to get an extra point I believe. Using the truck stick to knock a DB on his ass works great. Also, if you're a QB, ANYTIME you pitch the ball during a run play you'll get a point, even if it turns into a fumble. I've actually found that pitching the ball to get your point is safer than trying to run for 10 yards, get a first down, and get the 2 points.
One of the annoyances I've had is the play calling, its horrible, really horrible. Playin' as ND, the computer is calling option plays 60-75% of the time I would say. This would be great if it was still the 80s and 90s, but we no longer run the option. There is a QB that can run it, Jones wasn't the one I decided to try Legend mode with. Fortunately, my option gameplay is stil pretty good so I can make it work, and I can audible to a pass play after the 5th or 6th option in a row.
As far as the problem with fumbling, I haven't really seen it yet. The only game I had a fumbling problem was a real rainy game, which can be expected. I've seen the computer attempt to strip the ball numerous times though, sometimes successful, sometimes not. I generally use a ball carrier with a high carry attribute.

Personally, I don't think the broken tackles have been that bad, I'm playing at Varsity level though, haven't worked my way back up to Heisman. The fumbles were bad in the rain game, other than that they weren't excessive.
Overall, Ive been impressed with the gang tackles, and the tackle annimations in general. The series has come a long way from the late 90s, the tackling nicely models modern day. I'm impressed with the little things EA has added in this area as well. For example, if you're being pursued by a pack of defenders, and one tackles you, rather than stopping in their tracks the rushing defenders will leap the pile since there isn't enough time to stop on a dime.

Okay, now that I've had more time to play it (delayed due to the release of Harry Potter and I know...I'm a dork ). I really like the gameplay, especially the gang tackling feature. Offense is pretty decent though I wish you could just go to the line of scrimmage once you pick the play. It seems a bit too easy to get picked off, so I turned down the AI on the DB's interceptions a bit, which compensates nicely. Overall, the game is much tougher this year. The recruiting is actually pretty cool, though I wish there were more recruits after a year is over because I may have to take a few 1 stars out of necessity. I am actually tearing the recruiting up as far as highly ranked guys go (especially with my USC dynasty), but just don't get enough total it seems. But overall I really like the recruiting...very in-depth.

Yep, the recruiting is really indepth. Seems like I barely play any games as I spend most of my time recruiting. And boy is it tough/fun, especially since I use Ohio University. Almost through my first season and this seems more realistic as before it was really easy to build up my team to blow out the big boys.

But I am with you, I turned down the CPU DBs along with mine as it seemed like I would intercept 3-4 a game which with Ohio is very unrealistic. But now I am getting more realistic turnovers per game.

When playing online, my redzone offense is ATROCIOUS.

I've been playing a lot of Bowling mini-game to improve it. I think it's working, sorta... But it is so easy to get picked off in the redzone, and it's tough to run with 10 in the box. Gah.

All of my online games have been like 10-7, 7-3, 14-10; and the like.

Unfortunately, I'm losing most of them... I really have to work on my offense. My defense is doing fine.
