NBA Discussion (Official Thread)

ok so u guys dont like the NBA...cool...i am happy they finally got things settled...i am looking forward to watching Irving and Tristan play for the cavs, no matter how bad the cavs will be this year...and its a good thing the lockout didnt go all year...the draft would of probably been how the NHL did a few years ago taking a teams past 3 seasons to go on as their record...cavs would of had like the 22nd pick...not something we can afford right now...and i love playing fantasy basketball....i would imagine this age limit thing gets resolved soon...i havent heard what either side is pushing for but i would imagine the owners and NCAA would like to see it go up to a 2-and-done type rule
I don't mean to be a grammar nazi, but I think that you meant, "I ofn't heard". :wink2:

If I had a nickel for every time someone said something in this forum about not liking the NBA, I'd buy an NBA team. Ironically, it wouldn't be worth much if it weren't for the hater-types that donated the nickels.

I know a lot of people that don't like soccer either but I don't see them infesting the English Premier League thread. Must be something about the NBA that makes people unnecessarily angry.

Most of those people used to like the NBA. Nobody ever liked soccer.

ya i was going to say something about how i dont like hockey because im not from canada and i dont root for a gay hometeam that sucks but i decided against it...because i did post once in the blue jackets thread about how ironic and wrong it is that the casino was not allowed to be built in the arena district and was then sent out west where it was forced to annex with the city of columbus so some of those taxes could then pay for the blue jackets because they are losing so much fucking money because they may be the worst franchise in all of sports ever

Probably because petulant children have ruined a once great league. I guess a lot (read: most) of the blame can be layed at the feet of AAU as that mentality seems to be burned into these asshole's brains. I was fortunate to get into the game when the NBA was at it's zenith in the 80s-90s, it's a shell of what it was then. I love basketball, but I hate what the nba has become. It's just overrun by entitled douchebags.

Chris Paul already (allegedly) demanding a trade to the knicks. :roll1: [censored] these players. [censored] this league.

*Edit* Posted a little above. Still, fuck him.*

the nba owns the hornets. chris paul isn't going to get to hand select where he wants to go. he's going to get sent to wherever they want, or be forced to stay.

Bingo. What Chris Paul is doing is ridiculous. Looks like the new CBA did nothing to stop this type of behavior which is, IMO, the NBA's biggest problem.

Sounds like the current thinking is the age limit will not change, although that is not final. Some interesting alternative options thrown out...

ESPN Link: http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/7...-new-labor-deal-friday-according-billy-hunter

ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher reported this week that, while it has been widely held that the NBA would like to push the age limit to 20, sources familiar with the dialogue between the two sides now say it is expected to remain at 19 for at least the first two years of the new deal and possibly beyond that.

Several alternatives have been discussed, sources told Bucher. One option would be to allow players to enter the draft directly out of high school but have the option to withdraw and go to college, similar to the draft rule used by Major League Baseball. Under this concept, such players would next be required to attend at least two years of college before entering the draft again.

Another option would be to revise the rookie salary scale by adding incentives to stay in college longer, one source close to the labor talks told Bucher. Potential incentives would include increasing the salary range for each year a player stays in school or allow him to qualify for free agency sooner.

There are several ancillary reasons why keeping the age limit at 19 for the time being is seen as desirable by the NBA. The first is the limited time that owners and players have to complete a collective bargaining agreement by Dec. 9, which is the date NBA commissioner David Stern has announced for the start of training camp and free agency. All significant rules pertaining to league operations have to be in place by then.
The prospect of re-stocking the league with young talent is another appealing factor.

I'd rather we get something for him now while we can. And I think that his salary demands will reduce the number of potential takers down to fewer teams than you'd think.
