Oh shit, here we go. I knew this was going to happen. I'm surprised it took this long. If you criticize the NBA you must be a racist (which I absolutely am NOT). :shake:

you're completely right, i forgot that Jason Williams is black. Face it, the black hip/hop community and basketball go hand and hand, and thats not a racists comment, its fact. Its also a fact that crime and the gangster lifestyle go hand and hand with the hip/hop world. You get kids from the hoods that are athletically gifted, and they want to be the superstar rappers the same rappers that are ACTING like they are gangsters. Call me a racists if you will but thats just my take.

but back to the original topic - Tyrus is a piece of shit and should have been fined more for his statement.

My problem with the NBA is I don't find it interesting, and as far as pointing out thuggary, I do it to make the NBA "look bad" as it were. Every sport has it's schmucks, but frankly, I'll over-look the schmuckery when I'm interested in the sport. I don't know why the NBA lost me, to tell the truth... I used to really like watching basketball... but it DID lose me, and I just don't have any interest in coming back to it. Hell, I don't even watch the Finals anymore.

I still like basketball enough to watch college ball... but only OSU or the Tourney. That is, I won't tune in to Duke v. NC State or Kentucky v. Florida unless there isn't anything else on TV. Much unlike football, where I'll sit thru a 84 - 0 blow-out between D-III schools.

Grad posted exactly what I was going to say...

Just to add you say you see it more in the NBA, that is why we asked for proof, when everyone knows that things happen like this in all professional sports...

I provided several examples from NBA players and Yes, there are problems with athletes in all sports, I will agree with that. But I still think and this is MY OPINION that it happens more in the NBA with more regularity.

Wow...

I'm done with this one. Just make sure we all look back on this thread the next time the Tibor lynch mob comes rolling around...

it's a bit easy to consider the nba "thuggish" because, unlike football and other sports, there is little outlet for aggression. aggression is welcome and prized in football, and the pads mitigate the appearance of most violence. in hockey, fights are welcomed. in baseball, there is much less contact between players, and, therefore, there are fewer catalysts. of course, baseball has it share of brawls, but few cite the sport as being "thuggish." the explanation for this i can't exactly give... because the sport has a large minority presence, albeit latino, and the fights are rarely ever considered to follow race.

Here you go something vary rarely mentioned by themedia.

The 13-2 Chargers have had their share of off field problems, any where from Steve Foley being shot by an off- duty police officer to a practice player getting arrested for DUI. Little is mentioned that recently they were under investigation by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) for sending large sums of money to China. The reason for this investigation was the belief that players were involved in a steroid-smuggling ring. Shortly after this investigation, Shawn Merriman was recently suspended 4 games by the NFL for violating the leagues steroid-abuse policy. Now the DEA believes the money is being used for knockoff athletic shoes that could be passed off and sold as name-brand merchandise in this country. Because of this belief, the case has since been turned over to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, which has jurisdiction over such investigations.

Safety Terrence Kiel of the Chargers was arrested by DEA agents at the team's practice facility in September on charges of transporting and possessing a controlled substance. Kiel admitted to shipping at least two parcels of prescription cough syrup to Texas. While Kiel did not tell the DEA his motive, the agency in Texas has found widespread abuse of codeine-based cough syrup mixed with soft drinks or drugs and referred to as "lean," which can cost between $200 and $325 on the street.

If only those stupid basketball players wore shirts/pants and helmets and covered up their "blackness" like football players, we innocent people could watch them without recoiling in disgust. :roll1:
It's a damned good thing that dreads are so popular in the NFL these days, so that we can pick out the "thugs and gangstas" even with their helmets on.

Of course, Hawk and Carp get a "pass" for having long hair....

I think this guys makes very valid points...

you're completely right, i forgot that Jason Williams is black. Face it, the black hip/hop community and basketball go hand and hand, and thats not a racists comment, its fact. So let me get this straight you are being prejudice against Gangsters and the hip-hop world instead of being racist against blacks...

You think anyone that comes from the hood is a gangster and wanna be thug

Then you make the correlation that since the NBA goes hand in hand with hip hop lifestyle that everyone in the NBA is a thug...

I have never seen so many blanket statements in my life...

I will give you that there is a problem with inner city kids that struggle to have a home, food, and a life can struggle later in life with problems such as crime and breaking the law.

The thing I don't agree with is that it just strictly relays to the NBA.

Also do me a favor tonite, go home and watch the Cavs/ Clippers game tonite, you may not like the style of play with not much defense, but I think that you will find some of things you say to be off base...

I also assume that since you are so against kids from the hood that try to make something of themselves thru sports as most see that as the way out, and sometimes they struggle with the things mentioned above aobut not having that father figure or family thru child hood, that you are prejudice against people not from the hood that don't make anything of themselves in life...

I tend to agree with allot of yourcomments here. I dont know why I have never gotten into the NBA, some of it might be the fact that i grew up in cincinati where you dont have any close pro teams so I just never really followed it like I did baseball and football.

I will catch highlights here and there of the nba and can sit down and watch some basketball here and there. My none interest in the nba has little to do with the " thugs" because as it has been pointed out you have them in every sport these days.

come on, its very easy for you to just say that i'm making a blanket statement when in-fact i did not. I'm not saying that everyone from the hood is a gangster wannabe or that every nba player is a thug. if you can honestly tell me that the NBA has no reason for having the bad image then you are sadly mistaken.

I also assume that since you are so against kids from the hood that try to make something of themselves thru sports as most see that as the way out, and sometimes they struggle with the things mentioned above aobut not having that father figure or family thru child hood, that you are prejudice against people not from the hood that don't make anything of themselves in life...

1. ass|u|me - never do it - i didnt say i was against the kids from the hood trying to make it in sports

2. yes i'm very against people that dont make anything of themselves. this is the United States of America and you can do anything you want to. - my dad came from nothing - dirt poor family and then has worked his whole life and is now very successful

Well when saying they go hand in hand is pretty much a blanket statement to me...

1. ass|u|me - never do it - i didnt say i was against the kids from the hood trying to make it in sports

Well you did say that these kids from the hood are athletically gifted and are the same ones trying to act like rappers...That makes me believe that if these guys are into hip-hop you are already against them...That is their lifestyle, way of life, it is what they know, the fact that some of them use sports as a way out or to make a living for themselves, but some of them will always stay connected to the hood and their friends and family that are still there and they want to try and get them to better living. It isnt all about themselves as they want to help out many people surrounding them...You have to remember what these kids come up thru and it is hard to shake, but just to label the whole NBA to be full of this is ridiculous IMO and basically to label anyone into the hip-scene a thug is also ridiculous.

2. yes i'm very against people that dont make anything of themselves. this is the United States of America and you can do anything you want to. - my dad came from nothing - dirt poor family and then has worked his whole life and is now very successful

So then you should be all for the NBA considering alot of these kids come from nothing, and make it big and continue to stay straight and help out many people around them. Not everyone is a thug like you say b/c they live the hip-hop lifestyle...
