Why does the way a person dresses make him a thug or not? I beleive action off the court/field should equal decide if someone is a thug and as it have been pointed out, all teh sports seem to have the same amounts of thugs, just a matter of being reported.

Very true, but if you dress like a thug, you are trying to portray that thug image.

I mean if you see a white guy wearing baggy clothes, hat to the side, wearing chains/medallion and listening to hip hop music, i would call him either a thug, or a wanna be thug.

same way if i see a black guy with a suit on and cleanly shaven, i would think of him as a business man

Again, If your not trying to be a thug then why try and look like one?

How many NBA teams do you have to use to match the police blotter of the Bengals? Why doesn't their unending string of law-breaking inspire the 'thug' stereotyping?

For all the uproar over the occasional NBA fight, I've yet to see anything more violent/disgusting than Haynesworth' stomp.

so redskinsfan and buckeyefool, are you saying your not racist?

So what if you are on a plane and say 7 guys dress in white gowns and turbons get on your plane with no luggage and start chanting, would you say anything??

I might question their dress with the weather we have been having around here, but what would you say?

That's racial profiling, not racism.

I'm not looking up the definition but isn't racism basically just hating a race solely based on skin color?

we've been down this road, you can't say thug without being labeled a racist.

Can one guy be a thug, yes, does it matter if he is red, white, black, green...No

racism/prejudice is when you are labeling or discrimenating against a group of people due to blanket statements about the whole NBA...

I will say right now that I think a guy like Ron Artest is a thug due to his antics on and off the court, he has a record to back it up and he also had the brawl at the palace...

But just becasue someone wears the big baggy clothes, talks the slang and hangs out with hip hop stars in hip hop clubs doesnt make them a thug.

It is just a part of our culture where inner city kids with the traits mentioned above have become to be labeled as thugs, which is so far from the truth that it is giving the NBA a bad rap, not to call Big Papa and IAB out b/c there are many of them, but it has become the perception of the league. How some one can love to watch their every move in college and love what they bring, but the second they slip off to the NBA they become a thug. So when Greg Oden goes pro is he going to be a thug, what about Conley, what about guys from other schools like Morrison, Brandon Roy, etc...

here is the definition from Wiki..

Racism is a belief system or doctrine which states that inherent biological differences between human races determine cultural or individual achievement ? with a corollary that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.[1]
Some writers have used the term racism to refer to preference for one's own ethnic group (ethnocentrism), fear of foreigners (xenophobia), views against interracial relationships (miscegenation), and/or generalizations about a specific group of people (stereotype).[2][3]
Racism has been a motivating factor in social discrimination, racial segregation and violence, including genocide. Politicians are known to practice race baiting in an effort to win votes. The term racist has been a pejorative term since at least the 1940s, and the identification of a group or person as racist is often controversial.
