Game Thread Navy 27, at tOSU 31 (Sep 5th, ESPN)

IMO, it just felt like they were taking Navy for granted. You kick the field goal, and put the game on ice. Instead we remain up 15 after missing a 4th and 2 (on an awful play-call), and on the very next play Navy takes it 85 yards on a slot receiver lined 1 on 1 with Anderson Russell.

Take the 3 possession lead, kick the ball off, and force Navy to march the field with 6 minutes left. Congratulate them on a well-played game, and be done with it.

And a side-note....I don't think the Terrelle Pryor option with 1 rb in the backfield went for anything less than 5 yards today. If you're going to go for it on 4th and 2, why not put the ball in your best players hands? It's just frustrating.....I kind of felt like I was watching Romeo Crennel and the Cleveland Browns for a second when Pettrey didn't run out to ice the game....bad game management

I loved the decision to go for it.

I was appalled we couldn't muscle Navy off the line to pick up one yard. Shouldn't have to run any option to do that.

+1.

I think JT was trying to not lose momentum and show his guys that he trusts them. There wasn't a big downside. The fluke was Navy's quick scores given their anemic performance up to that point after the first quarter.

not sure if your aware, but we ran the exact same play on 3rd and 2 gaining exactly 0 yrds... not sure why you would expect a different result the second time.

So... if you run a play once and it doesn't work you should chuck it out of the playbook?

I will lay off the defense because they faced a gimmicky offense that is flat tough to prepare for.

I agree completely. If the defense look like this against a MAC team, I would be worried. I do not think there is anything we can take from today's game, talking about the defense, that we can judge how good or bad the unit is. That seems like it could be a concern since we will not know what to fix this week.

Cause they ran that play on 4th and 1 earlier in the game and got it.

Not sure if you're aware, but I think Jax's point still stands...appalled that they couldn't knock Navy back for 2 yards...in TWO plays. I would agree that line play wasn't what I had hoped for.

Hat's off to Navy today. That being said, I think maybe too many hats were taken off for them today, it's almost as if they were respected too much. Like playing an older brother on Playstation, one who you know you are better than. You screw around with them and before you know it you are in trouble. I think that OSU took Navy lightly today. Yes, yes, I know.............Navy was a good team, I agree with that. With that said, OSU could instill their will when they wanted to (well, not on 4th down when the momentum changed), at least offensively. Navy broke some big plays and played very well, my hat goes off to them. I view this in the same way I view any contest against a good mid-major team. There were no major injuries today and we got the win. That is all that matters, live to fight another day.
