Name, Image, & Likeness (NIL) at tOSU

I think they'll play their usual political games but at the end of the day, no state level politician in Ohio (who wants another term) wants to be associated with doing anything that hurt Ohio State football.

Then again, they are politicians and it's hard to think like them when you are an actual human being with a soul.

Ohio State football was the last unifying force in this state, and Name, Image and Likeness reform for college athletes was the last bipartisan issue in American politics.

Yet the Ohio House of Representatives still managed on Thursday to muck this up.

Craven, divisive, last-minute political maneuvering may be typical, but messing with the Ohio State Buckeyes is not.

So when state Rep. Jena Powell, a Republican from Darke County, attached an amendment that would ban transgender athletes from competing in high school sports to a hugely popular NIL bill, which would allow college athletes to make money from endorsements, maybe that was normal for politics.

But for those of us who don’t follow the ins-and-outs of Ohio politics, because we’d rather bang our heads against walls, this looked like political freeloading on the backs of college athletes.

If there’s anything politicians do really well, it’s fucking up the layups.

NIL will have an immense impact on everyone's recruiting... it could be a disaster.. opening up Pandora's box... cheating and cheating schemes will be vast...
I understand and agree with the concept... but this will not go well...

Free market Captialism as I remember John Galbreath paid fence painters in the 60s 70s a healthy wage. If I want to pay a 5 star qb 100 k to comment on my BP posts why not?

The cheating already happened. What will be interesting is if the Giant pool of Northern boosters can suddenly impact recruiting in a more company-friendly way.

You're always going to have craziness for the top kids, though that's not necessarily a new development.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens to the 20th best player in a recruiting class. Will the southern boosters have the depth to reward all of those players? Or will business partnerships and sponsorships in the North bring up the floor of what was very bad recruiting from anyone other than two and a half Northern schools in any given season.
