Multiple shootings at Va Tech

You are right, this stuff can happen anywhere. The gunman could have waited to attack the classes first and there's very little anyone can do about that. It's regretful however that no one "capitalized" the fact that he had struck before attacking the classes and there were witnesses that provided a pretty good physical description of him after the first attack.
From what Fox is saying, after the first shooting the police had a description of a white male with greasy hair driving a black pickup. Nothing I've seen so far suggests they had an accurate description of the gunman after the dorm shooting.

I thinl I heard VT has 9,000 on campus and 16,000 commuters. It would have been easy for him to blend in

Anybody could walk onto any campus and do this. You can plan and try to prevent it, but if some nut job wants to kill a bunch of people it can easily be done.

When was the last time you heard of someone being stopped before they start all the killing?

Never.

Plus, it was 7 a.m. Most crazy shit doesn't happen early in the morning. The cops were probably not even at the donut shop yet.

I teach 8 o'clocks at NKU... there's nobody in any of the admin offices until 8 - 8:30 and try and find a custodian then. On several occassions the server has been down and the IT guys are having coffee and donuts with the cops. If I forget my keys I'm screwed.

don't blame the media entirely. The media hungry family members and fellow students seem to want to rush into the headlines as well. Take a look at this asshole and his final comment

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,266460,00.html

However, John Shourds said he had doubts about the effectiveness of Virginia Tech’s campus police from the start. He called the force, “an Andy Griffith and Barney Fife” operation.

"They are really small police force for 20,000 students and they are not the best and the brightest,” said Shourds.

Go fuck yourself, John. Shame you weren't in one of those buildings. See how tough you'd have been, jackass.

It's not that uncommon to try to blame someone or something in a situation like this. Cut him some slack.

I am, however, shocked at how many kids are giving multiple interviews. If I had just been through that the last thing I would want to do is tell my story for the 10th time of the day to Greta Van Sustren, or whoever else is there.

Wait till the books come out. :shake:

oh yeah, and the lawsuits by those students not even injured, who will claim "emotional trauma" Given that only pussies would be media whores, they might have a point.

How would it be possible to prevent something like this?

The Answer: It's not.

Who's to blame?

The Answer: The psycho that killed 32 people.

Well put. Does anyone out there really think that this exact same thing can't happen tomorrow? If one crazy-ass mutherfucker out there decides that it happens again tomorrow, then it happens again tomorrow.

Thoughts and prayers to the entire Hokie Nation.
