Chris Summers kicked a 40-yard field goal as time expired in the Motor City Bowl, lifting Purdue to a 51-48 win over Central Michigan last night in Detroit.
Curtis Painter threw for a school-record 546 yards and three touchdowns, helping the Boilermakers build three 21-point leads and set up the winning kick.
The 99 points tied the second-highest total in a bowl game that ended in regulation, trailing only the 2003 Insight Bowl, where California beat Virginia Tech 52-49.
"It reminded me of some of our early games at Purdue and also of the wacky WAC," Boilermakers coach Joe Tiller said. "It wasn't my favorite game, but it was a heck of a game for the spectators."
Central Michigan's Dan LeFevour threw for 293 yards and four scores and ran for 114 yards and two touchdowns.

Dark jersy's now 5-2 in Bowls and the 2 have been close but this makes the B10 1-0, it was in a dome and essentially a home game for the competition.

Just sayin :wink2:

A little background information: I was only a lukewarm football fan until 2005. That was the year I started watching football games on a regular basis. So that's why I might ask some "first grader" football history questions.

(and I believe 74 was the Mike Lantry missed field goal that lead to a tie, though that may have been 73)

'74 Lantry missed a 33 yader wide left as time expired that would have won the now BP infamous 12-10 game.

'73 Lantry missed 2 FG's actually that would have won it, 57 and 44 yds. The 44 yarder being as time expired.

I'm also glad to see my one attempt at being nice to a visiting dufus has forever linked me to the moron and in a not so flattering way. Thats what I get for trying to be nice, it won't happen again.

Darn Purdue and Joe Tiller, worked late last night, so I had DVRed the game planning on watching the first half last night and second half today. When Purdue got up by three touches at half, I figured I'd watch the first possesion or two of the 2nd half and could delete the rest since Purdue had it well in hand. An hour and a half later, just as the DVR stopped (dang pass happy long games :() when PU's pk was lining up for the game winning fg, red-eyed and foggy, I had to check the litany of espins to find out if PU pulled it out. Ah well I would really be cussing Joe and his boys if they lost, way to go B10.
