Most arrogant fans ever?

I am Catholic, and I am Irish, and I fight, but I still cannot stand Notre Dame.

When I was applying to schools, I didn't really consider going anywhere because of my denomination or religion. But I think about 1/4 of this country is catholic, and only 1/8 or so is baptist, yet Notre Dame has a whole hell of a lot more fans than Baylor. There are several paths to the ND bandwagon, through movies, songs, and NBC's coverage. They are the Yankees of CFB, love them or hate them. I choose the latter. As for arrogance, the USC fans were pretty bad in Pasadena, but that is the first run-in that I have had with them. The A&M fans are just falsely confident, but man they sure are one heck of an optimistic bunch, talk about finding the silver lining. As far as arrogance as a quality outside of just football, Texas has to be mentioned, as several members of our fanbase are arrogant in the fact that if our football team is not doing well, we still rely on the notioin that we are a better school, have more money, etc. than the rest of the Big XII, so we don't care, and when our football team is winning, we are even more arrogant.

But then again, it's tough not to be arrogant when you have the best fans, the best football program, the hottest chicks, the largest endowment of any public school, and the SEARS trophy....:wink2:

Of course more Catholics attend OSU than ND; because OSU is a much bigger school!!!

DUH!!!!!

My point was that I have met MANY catholics who have TOLD ME that they are ND fans BECAUSE OF THEIR RELIGION. Your point has NOTHING TO DO with this FACT!! This is not something that you can dispute, as it is MY life and MY experience. If you don't like it, TAKE it up with the catholics that DO believe that their religion should affect their football allegience.

Do they not teach LOGIC at OSU anymore!?!?!?!?
So what is the point of your "FACT"? I am reading it as saying religion determines fandom. Your "FACTS" seem to bear this out. I am from an area where 90% of the people are Catholic. You will be hard pressed to find Domer fans. We are 99.9% OSU. In fact, in my family, there are as many Auburn fans (don't ask) as domer. That is MY life experience, so it is a FACT. One that directly contradicts yours.

My point is: Don't assume or generalize to a large population from your life experiences. It may not hold true in even a majority of the cases.

I don't know about brainwashing, but I have relatives that went to Catholic grade schools in Ohio in the 1930s. The nuns would give the kids chocolate bars on Monday morning - but only if Notre Dame had won their game on Saturday. This was during the Depression, and getting a choclate bar was a pretty big thing for those kids back then. Enough for many of them to develop a habit of pulling for Notre Dame to win.

I went to St Matthias Catholic primary school in Columbus. I will not get into details but I did well in school and attended a special class at St Francis DeSales as well. I cannot remember anyone at St Matthias or St Francis DeSales, except one lay teacher whose husband was a final year dental student at Ohio State, who did not try to encourage me to attend Notre Dame. Every time I mentioned how much I wanted to attend Ohio State, they tried to recruit me for Notre Dame.

My memory about this is clear because our family were die-hard (whoops :)) Ohio State fans and it was a topic of family discussion often at the dinner table. Eventually, I left the Catholic schools ostensibly because, back then, they offered one year less maths than the public school system and I could do calculus in high school only if I switched. But the real reason I wanted to leave was to stop hearing adverts for Notre Dame.

I might add that the priest used to catch me at Sunday Mass and remind me that "Notre Dame" was the place for good Catholics.

I don't believe for a moment that every kid in a Catholic school gets this jazz, now or then, but to say it didn't happen is wrong and to say that Buckeye fans are opposed to Notre Dame because it is a Catholic institution (as some have on the Notre Dame board) is ridiculous.

As far as I am concerned, I don't think that Notre Dame is any better university than Ohio State. And rankings pretty much prove that. I respect anyone's right to disagree.

And another thing. I am an American citizen. Ohio State is my team. Notre Dame, by that logic, is NOT America's team and I am offended when someone suggests that it is.

Oh yeah and WE'RE good looking and chicks dig US!:oh: :io:

Statistically speaking, according to http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/brief/natudoc/tier1/t1natudoc_brief.php
Notre Dame ranks 18th in the country among top universities and colleges, while OSU is at a respectful 60. Somehow Florida and Miami ranked ahead of OSU though, which is hard to believe. You're right though, a 4 year degree from most universities and colleges is often regarded about the same as any other 4 year program. Interestingly enough, the highest ranked state funded school is Berkeley in California.
And another thing. I am an American citizen. Ohio State is my team. Notre Dame, by that logic, is NOT America's team and I am offended when someone suggests that it is.
I don't quite understand this logic. Are you creating a logic problem such that:
A) You are American
B) All Americans root for Notre Dame
Conclusion: You root for Ohio State, therefore you can't be American?
Personally, I've never heard Notre Dame referred to as America's team, but I've heard people mention that it has one of the largest fanbases because it stretches across the country, most likely due to the ties with some Catholics. That could be where it comes from if people do make that distinction, not a reason to be offended really. Just avoid those idiots :wink2:
Oh yeah and WE'RE good looking and chicks dig US!
Well, the second part is correct, but I wouldn't say the first part is true in all cases :tongue2:
