Most arrogant fans ever?

I teach at a Catholic HS, and there are definitely a lot more OSU fans than Domers here at school, among both the students and faculty. If I want to piss off Catholic Domer fans, I just tell them I root for Georgetown and Boston College b/c they are Jesuit schools, as is St. Xavier. Catholic ND fans hate it when you remind them that other Catholic schools play sports as well.....

Notre Dame cannot be America's team because that suggests that everyone in America supports it. America's team is the national Olympic team. Period. By logic, if I am an American and I don't support Notre Dame, then Notre Dame cannot be America's team.

I don't agree that ND is America's team, but I think your logic is off. Not every American supports the national Olympic team, so are they not America's team?

I think the logic is fine but I will rephrase this to make it clearer!

  1. By definition, the national Olympic team officially represents the United States of America in the Olympic games, a contest in which only national teams may compete.
  2. Notre Dame represents only the University of Notre Dame. It is not officially recognized as a team that represents the United States and it does not play in any national contests.
  3. The term "America's team" may imply that all Americans support the team, even though it is not an officially designated national team. Logically, this cannot be the case because you, I, and the vast majority of Americans do not support Notre Dame.
  4. If the term, "America's team" is meant to say that Notre Dame enjoys wide support across America that is of such a nature that no other team can rival them, then this term is fallacious because I would assert that Ohio State is a much larger university, with a far larger alumni body, and more numerous supporters than Notre Dame. My evidence? An important indicator of fan support is the purchase of a branded clothing item from the team. When I was teaching at Ohio State a few years ago, I saw a report that indicated that Ohio State was the number one university brand on clothing. TSUN was number two. I don't remember seeing Notre Dame on the list, so I have no idea where they were ranked.
