Mixed Martial Arts (Official Thread)

Very good PPV overall, Babalu got the shit beat out of him, Hughes was dominant but boring, and Franklin beat the shit out of McDonald (maybe Jason will stop referring to himself in the 3rd person after his ass-kicking). Randy Couture then fought the absolute best fight possible versus a paper champion. Looking forward to CroCop vs. Couture.

Couture wins dramatic comeback match

3/4/2007, 1:21 a.m. ET The Associated Press
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) ? Ultimate Fighting Championship legend Randy Couture made a dramatic return to the octagon Saturday night, winning a unanimous decision over heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia during UFC 68: The Uprising in Nationwide Arena.
Couture, coming off a 12-month retirement, was knocked out in three of his last five fights before calling it quits in February 2006.
The 43-year-old Couture, at 6-foot-2 and 222 pounds, agreed to return when he was offered a shot at Sylvia. Couture took immediate control of the fight by sending the 6-foot-8, 263-pound champion to the mat with a right hook seconds into the first round. Couture dominated each of the five five-minute rounds, and sent the crowd into a frenzy when he reclaimed the belt that he lost to Ricco Rodriguez in September 2002. After that fight, Couture dropped to the light heavyweight division and claimed that UFC belt before losing it to Liddell in April 2005.

AMAZING! Couture Shuts out Sylvia to Win Third UFC Heavyweight Title

By Thomas Gerbasi

COLUMBUS, OH, March 4

After losing two out of three fights to UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell and a tearful retirement in 2006, most believed that Randy Couture had run out of miracles. But before a packed house at the Nationwide Arena, the 43-year old UFC Hall of Famer shocked the world once again, dominating Tim Sylvia for five rounds, en route to a shutout five round decision that earned Couture a third UFC heavyweight championship.
"Not bad for an old man," said Couture, whose three belts are now added to two UFC light heavyweight championships, giving him five total belts.

i just watched the fights again last night - how about Silvia punking out and saying that he came into the fight injured and as soon as he did the fans started booing him, so he back peddled. what a dick
I posted that in the other thread, that is a glimpse of why fans hate the guy. That attitude + being a boring fighter = no one liking you. I bet Sylvia's mom was even cheering for Randy to win....

UFC has supposedly finally purchased PRIDE and the are just working on the details before announcing. PRIDE officials are denying it right now, but deal sounds immenent. Sounds like cross promotional matches will be held in the US in the UFC octogon w/ UFC rules. Sherdog.com and mmaweekly.com are abuzz about it. Great news if it does indeed go down.

I don't think so. They will still hold their events worldwide with their ring and their rules from what I understand. However if it is a PRIDE guy vs. a UFC guy it will be in the octogon w/ UFC rules. I could be wrong but that is how I took it.....
