A kid that's a leader on the field and has good grades too. I like.RB07OSU;2109028; said:One thing you always get form a Mentor QB is a smart kid who is near college ready schematically...the offense they run up there is something else at the HS level.
Mentor quarterback Mitch Trubisky's arm sets him apart: Hey, Tim!

Mentor's Mitch Trubisky. - (PD)
Q: Hey, Tim: So, Ohio State offered a scholarship to Mentor QB Mitch Trubisky? Is he that good, or are his stats inflated by Mentor's junk offense? Can he really be a starter at Ohio State?
-- Tim Cook, Ashley, Ohio
A: Hey, Tim: Trubisky, a junior, is one of the three or four best high school quarterbacks I've covered in 27 years. By the end of this fall, he might top that list. He has the size (6-3, 200) and the smarts, and enough quickness. He appears to be a good character kid who can lead without being a prima donna.
What sets him apart is his arm. He makes throws very few quarterbacks can. I've seen him throw darts into the wind 50 yards down field and connect to a guy who was well covered. I've frequently seen him thread the ball between linebackers on crossing patterns. I've seen him go Bernie Kosar and complete an awkward-looking sidearm pass at an insane angle. When Mentor lost its No. 1 receiver this fall, Trubisky never missed a beat and had plenty of chemistry with the other four.
He has issues, as his 18 interceptions attest, but that is correctable.
How does that translate to college? I'm not going to pretend I'm good at projecting a high school talent three or four years down the road. That's part science, part voodoo to me. If Urban Meyer thinks he can be a Big Ten QB in 2015, that speaks volumes more than what I can predict. But I do know Meyer has offered a scholarship to a kid who, at the high school level, gets it and has it.

Mitch Trubisky: QB - Mentor (Ohio): I hadn't seen him before, so I came in with no bias, but the kid really surprised me with his athleticism. I can see why Ohio State offered, given what Urban Meyer will run offensively there. The kid is a great fit. He can throw it too though. He has a good arm, a live arm, and can get it downfield as well as throw on the run without losing velocity. He has some mechanical work to do, but the kid is impressive.

If winning requires being pass-heavy and delegating the power running role to a non-qb, fine. Besides, it's not like he's Tom Brady or Peyton Manning - he's definitely above average athletically and he can run when he needs to.
Regarding Brantley, the problem was UF didn't have any power backs to complement Rainey and the shifty backs they had. Urban's offense usually has both. Here, that should be no problem with Hyde, Smith, and now Bri'onte to complement Hall, Ball and whoever else we bring in
