Minnesota Golden Gophers (official thread)

Is Minnesota in that bad of shape? They have to be light years ahead of Rutgers when Ash took over. They just got a solid RB recruit not long ago too if I remember?

It's not Rutgers but the only good coach they had since the early 80's was Mason and they decided he couldn't "get them to the next level" and fired him.

1 guy in 40 years wins and they get delusions of grandeur and fire him

if you've waited 8+ years at a mid major why not wait for greener pastures?

Good point. He should have hit when the jobs were open and his stock was up. Best jobs I can see next year being open are Tennessee and Notre Dame if the chips fall in place.

UCLA, Arizona, Texas Tech, Arkansas, Nebraska are possibilities, as well. Plus, other big jobs always open up for unexpected reasons (job hopping, NFL, scandal, etc.).

Very true. I think Riley gets a couple years at least, they had a decent year but fell apart at the end I think that was more on Armstrong getting hurt. I think UT and ND are better jobs as far as brand names. Arkansas could be a good fit though. Not too familiar on his play style what would fit most but ND would be his best option geographically with his history.

Keep in mind he didn't get interviewed or didn't make it very far in interviews this time around he's a darling right now because they were undefeated but if he loses 4 or 5 games next year. Shine will have come off some.

Also don't forget aggy being open next year

Yep, Aggy could definitely be there.

It does seem kind of odd he didn't get more attention. Maybe programs see it as a Brady Hoke/Ball State situation.

5 potential candidates to replace Tracy Claeys at Minnesota: P.J. Fleck, Les Miles, Tony Dungy and more

...Les Miles
While he may not bring the same youth and vigor that Fleck would, former LSU head coach Les Miles would be about as big of a name as Minnesota could hire...
