Minnesota Golden Gophers (official thread)

Ex-Gophers star Tyrone Carter: I’m done with Minnesota unless president and AD are fired

Though the current Minnesota players have ended their boycott, one of the most prominent Gophers of the last 50 years is still voicing his anger at the university’s administration.

Tyrone Carter, a two-time All-American at Minnesota in the late 1990s and winner of the 1999 Jim Thorpe Award as college football’s top defensive back, told the Minneapolis Star Tribune that he was “done” with the program unless Minnesota President Eric Kaler and Athletic Director Mark Coyle get fired.

“I’m done with the University of Minnesota, unless President (Eric Kaler) and the (athletic director Mark Coyle) get fired,” Carter said. “They got to get a new administration. They’re going to lose kids. I feel bad as a (friend) of Antoine Winfield that he trusted the university with his kid. The way they handled that situation was totally disrespectful.”

Tyrone, among other things, "totally disrespectful" is the way the 10 Gophers football players acted.

Bye bye Tyrone, and while he's at it, as much as it pains my heart to say it, he can feel free to take Antoine Winfield, Sr. with him.

Hope this is the Minny President's response.

The scumbag tweeted (now deleted) the victim's name. Not sure if that's a crime or not, but if so, I hope he's fucking prosecuted. Fucking piece of human paraquat.

Personally, I feel kind of bad for the family who trusted the university with their daughter.

But, I guess, that line of players at the bedroom door respected the hell out of her.

PS to all you disgruntled "adults" disappointed in Minny's handling of this situation: Don't let the door hit you in the ass.

Was over on Gopher Hole earlier today to gauge the fan reaction, and was somewhat surprised. Most of them want the players and staff gone, and don't care if they just burn it all down. Of course there are a few defenders, but most seem to feel it would be better to start over from scratch than have this kind of stuff happening at their school. Gopher fans just moved up in my book a little bit.

Much respect for the Minny fans. I can't honestly see how in any way any fan(or rational adult) could side with the HC and players. tumblr_mhnutmIUxN1roqzu6o1_400.gif

Tracy Claeys told Minnesota players he’d be fired if boycott continued

Minnesota players have ended their boycott and will indeed play in the Dec. 27 Holiday Bowl. Turns out reading an 80-page report describing in painstaking detail of an alleged sexual assault committed by your teammates tends to soften feelings of revolution.

But another factor contributing to the stakeout: Tracy Claeys‘s job.

The Minnesota head coach told WCCO radio he informed his players there was “a great chance I could lose my job over this.”

“That was the commitment on my part. I knew that was a possibility in happening,” Claeys told the station, via the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. “That’s why that meeting took a long time, to go through the fallouts.”

Even still, Claeys insisted he was okay risking his $1.4 million a year job to show solidarity with his players. (Claeys told WCCO he will donate $50,000 of his own money to support victims of sexual assault.)

Only donating 5k because he needs at least 15k a month to remain a despicable fat fuck.

Confused on this whole mess? Why the hate towards Claeys if he was the one handing down punishment?

Re: Ten Gophers football players were suspended indefinitely by the University of Minnesota on Tuesday, the latest fallout from an incident that happened a few hours after the season began.

and

But the university’s office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action (EOAA) conducted its own investigation, which led to these latest suspensions.

See newspaper article: http://www.startribune.com/ten-gophers-football-players-indefinitely-suspended/406406736/

It appears that (initially anyway) Claeys actually supported the striking football players which would have him (at least de facto) supporting the 10 suspended football players. Similar to the Torrance Gibson suspension (for fall semester), I'm thinking that the suspensions were levied by some internal compliance department within the school and not by the football coach.

And then there was that whole "I'm proud of my players" quote from him re the boycott. Didn't seem ambiguous that he was throwing his weight in the direction of support for the pro-rapist faction. Apparently, the fat on him extends all the way into his head.

Fire his ass.

Thanks guys. I read yesterday where the punishment was levied both by the university president & Claeys.

I also read where Claeys said he told the players they need to stop the boycott or it would risk his job... the whole thing is so damn muddled.

To give the coach and protesting players the benefit of doubt- it seems possible they were (stupidly) taking a stand without actually knowing what had happened.

Something along the line of "the police cleared them of wrongdoing! they're being suspended for nothing!"

And the coach backed them because he didn't know the story either and what else is he supposed to do (maybe don't take to twitter when you don't know what's going on and you have other means of communicating with your team).

To everyone's possible credit- they seemed to back off quickly once they, I assume, actually found out what had happened.

So in the best case scenario, they took a strong stand without knowing what they were talking about (ain't that America) and backed off quickly when they became aware of the severity of the situation.
