Mike Vick (Pittsburgh Steelers)

Reporter sorry for Vick comment

Pittsburgh reporter said Vick better off raping woman

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- A newspaper reporter who said Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick would have been "better off raping a woman" than being charged with dogfighting has apologized and will no longer appear on the local sports panel TV show where he made the remark.
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter Paul Zeise made the comments Sunday night on the Sports Showdown show on KDKA-TV, a CBS affiliate. He was disagreeing with another panelist who said NFL commissioner Roger Goodell should suspend Vick for the rest of the season because he was indicted on federal dogfighting charges July 17.

he actually may be right, as sad as that is..........

From the general publics perception? Maybe, it's hard to put a spin on dogs, much easier on a girl in Colorado, however, there's also the element that the NFL is trying so hard to clean up it's image and punishing players, where the NBA's way of cleaning up it's image is to make players wear suits when they aren't in uniform :roll1:

Tell that to Mike Tyson.

if the evidence that you committed rape is as strong as the evidence linking Vick to dog fighting is, you are screwed and the punishment is far worse.

The "problem" is that the evidence of rape is usually he-said/she-said and there is no proof that a crime was committed.

After writing last week?s post about failed baseball promotions, I was left a little disenchanted about being a baseball spectator. This wasn?t helped by game I attended last week, where the free promotion ended up being a camouflage trucker hat that I will certainly never wear again. Luckily, I remembered the joy that are minor league baseball games, where the tickets are cheap, the games hardly matter and the promotions are extravagant. Here?s a look my two-week plan to hit the coolest minor league promotions in America.
July 29: Blair Field, Long Beach, CA
vick.jpg
The Long Beach Armada of Los Angeles of California of the United States of North America Including Barrow, Alaska reacted to the recent NFL dogfighting scandal by hosting Michael Vick Animal Awareness Day. Fans were encouraged to bring their dogs to the game and anyone who brought a Vick jersey or shirt was given free admission. The in-game promotions were changed to make the dogs more welcome, including a doggie first pitch, a wiener dog race and dog washes. And don?t worry about the dogs leaving a mess on the field. What do you think they did with all those jerseys?

Christian group to honor Vick
Posted: Saturday August 04, 2007 08:41AM ET

When the Southern Christian Leadership Conference gathers this week to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., and the promise of Barack Obama, the presence of at least one more major figure will loom large -- Michael Vick. During a press conference announcing the opening of the SCLC's 49th annual convention to celebrate the organization's 50th year, president Charles Steele noted that the organization would find some way to honor and recognize the embattled Falcon's quarterback who is under federal indictment on dogfighting charges.

Yikes.

The way the article reads, it seems to imply Vick will be honored because he is under indictment and needs support. I doubt that's the case... but to leave out any reason other than the vague "we will work with anyone who opens their heart and arms to us" quote seems like a reporter trying to make it seem even worse than it is. Are then honoring him as a show of support (pretty stupid) or did he do something for them and they just haven't decided to throw him under the bus yet? I hate it when reporters focus more on what point they want to make than what the facts are. Just put them out there and we'll figure it out ourselves...

From the AJC via SI.COM:

Contrary to popular belief, Michael Vick hasn't yet been suspended by either the NFL or the Falcons. He has been excused from training camp with pay by commissioner Roger Goodell pending the league's own investigation. It seems a reasonable assumption that the NFL will find cause to suspend him for the season. But what if it doesn't? According to the NFL's collective bargaining agreement, the maximum a team (as opposed to the league, which has broader powers) can suspend a player is four regular-season games. The Falcons were prepared to do that -- they'd already drafted the letter -- when Goodell stepped in. The Falcons' fourth game will be played on Sept. 30. So what would happen on Oct. 1? Either Vick rejoins the team, or the Falcons cut him.
