Mike Vick (Pittsburgh Steelers)

At this point, with the media storm surrounding the case and the public backlash against him, I'd be shocked to see Mexico on the field this season. Then again, Kobe did it a few years back, so who knows...
Quite a bit easier to show up and play guard than quarterback. Kobe does a lot of things on the court by himself. Vick has to work in sync with 10 individuals. He didn't run a very effective passing attack before the controversy and practice layoff, so I'd imagine it would be worse afterwards.

Historically, the SCLC has been less of a Christian-oriented organization than a black-oriented civil rights organization. They are supporting Vick as a black man being persecuted by the white legal and media power structure that cannot stand to see a black man be successful and will do whatever it can to keep him down.

It's an abject shame that an organization could in the same breath honor MLK, Obama, and Ron Mexico. That's like the Italian Anti-defamation League having a dinner to honor LaGuardia, Giuliani, and Gotti. Or simultaneously honoring Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and David Duke just because they're white Southerners.

I stand somewhat corrected. The SCLC will not be honoring Vick at its convention, principally because he can't leave VA. However, Tyrone Brooks appears to have his act together on this issue:

State Rep. Tyrone Brooks of Atlanta, once an aide to Martin Luther King Jr. in the SCLC, said he told Steele last week that the Vick case was a distraction.
?I just don?t think it should be discussed at the convention or as part of the black agenda,? Brooks said when reached on his cell phone Tuesday. ?I?m not trying to make it an issue. I just don?t think it ought to be out there.?
Instead, Brooks said, the SCLC should concentrate on such issues as violence and the incarceration of young black people across the country.

?To talk about a superstar athlete who?s got millions and millions in the bank, with the resources available to put together a defense team ... we?re mixing up our priorities to the extent that it causes confusion,? he said.

Yahoo reports that Vick's suspension could come as soon as this week for the entire season.

Hints that this has to happen before the full season begins.

Two NFL sources said that commissioner Roger Goodell likely will announce this week or next the suspension of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick for the 2007 season.
"That's the direction it's going and has been from the time this started," one of the sources said this week.
In July, Goodell told Vick not to report to training camp in the aftermath of a federal indictment for his alleged involvement in dogfighting on a property he owned in Virginia. Vick has since been arraigned on the matter and is facing trial in November.
What is unclear is whether Vick will be allowed to return to the Falcons this season if he is acquitted. This offseason, Goodell suspended Tennessee Titans cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones for the entire season but added stipulations that could allow Jones to return earlier if he clears his record.

Nice article , Thanks for sharing. I think the Falcons are in a world of hurt because Joey looks like the same QB he was in Detroit.

How many entire seasons has Vick played with the Falcons? I remember a couple years ago he got hurt during pre-season, I think he played the full season before that and got them to the playoffs?

I mean is a quarterback "great" if he's injured or suspended half the time?

depends on what you mean by full season.. he played a few games in 01, 15 games in the season 02, injured in 03, 15 games in the 04 season, 15 games in the 05 season, and actually played in all 16 games last year..

so to answer your question, he has only played one FULL season and that was last season.
