Mike Vick (Pittsburgh Steelers)

the thing that confuses me about vick and the whole dog fighting thing is no one in the falcons organization even suspected it.

I know when doing criminal acts you keep to your self but for people that he had spent a good deal of time with for the past 6 years for no one to even have a inclining that this was going on is a little odd.
All that proves is that Vick had a football life and then his Pit Bull business, and was able to keep them apart from one another.

The activities were run on the Eastern seaboard, not in Atlanta.

IMO he should go to jail for several years at least if convicted. He deserves nothing less. I have had pets my whole life and hate the idea of anyone being unkind or mistreating them.
I don't think he will have to do the time to fit the crime. :(

NAACP involved? I'm willing to take a shot at this. I heard a San Francisco Chronicle sports writer being interviewd a few weeks ago. The topic was Barry Bonds, but his arguments went something like this: 1) You can't try Bonds for something that is not against the rules even though it may be unethical. 2) Bonds is not under arrest, nor is there a warrant out on him 3) most people are not aware of the scrutiny that black athletes are subjected to... he presented a few reasonable arguments and then I had to leave and didn't hear the rest.

By extension the NAACP may look at this and from their perspective see it as an attempt to deny a black man the right to make money.

I'm oppossed to dog fighting, but Vick was raised in a culture that saw nothing wrong with it... not unlike people who smoke weed because they think the law is wrong, or folks who drive and drink... (and I'm not saying if I do or don't.) This doesn't free him of responsibility from the law, but it certainly qualifys as something a jury would be asked to consider.

Right or wrong, it is his lawyers duty to protect him as best he can and we shouldn't get our panties in a wad when he does. You have to wonder what might have happened if the Scottsboro boys had been able to afford this kind of legal protection.

Instead of sending him to jail I think he should be sentenced to play for the Browns.

Nah, the Browns haven't done anything to deserve this monster we call Ookie to have to play for them. I hope he doesn't play for any NFL team, let alone my team. As a fellow Browns fan, I am perplexed that you would even offer such an option?

I don't think that avatars and/or signatures relating to animal rights organizations, whether criticizing or supporting them, is a good trend for the board.

It's one thing to read about somebody's position in a thread that's relevant to the topic - it's another to see that stuff all over the place.

And it's a short leap from there to other political content - which we made a concerted effort to eliminate not that long ago.
