Mike Vick (Pittsburgh Steelers)

agree completely w/ touch and accuracy but the WR's are not getting open, they just aren't. I tivo the games and usually watch them once before the next game and the WR's (re:Jenkins, White) just give up on their routes sometimes. I think part of that is they don't think they are going to get the ball, but Lelie and Crump are the only guys that complete their routes. If you notice they are also the only ones that get the ball thrown their way.

Never said they don't need to, but I have agreed that Vick struggles with those things and will always struggle with them. But just b/c he isnt the perfect passer, doesnt mean that he can lead the offense in an effective way. Just different from the typical way to lead an offense.

The way the Falcons run an offense seems to be pretty effective with being ranked 12th in the league in first downs/game and 5 in the league in TOP.

Right now the falcons are being carried by their defense and special teams.
They are tied for the NFL lead (with the Colts) in trips inside the opponents red zone right now w/ 17. They need to finish with TD's instead of so many FG's but they are moving the ball fine. However I agree more balance would be ideal, just not at the cost of moving Vick from the QB position.

Keep in mind that one of the reasons that Falcons are second to last in passing offense is b/c they average the least amount of pass attempts at only 22 per/game.

Heck teams have more attempts than than them that have only played 3 games and the Falcons have played 4.

Is it just me or does it seem like WR's have problems catching balls from lefties?

People said the same thing about Bellisari when the OSU receivers were dropping every other pass. I never bought it, though. The DB's never had a problem catching his passes.

The point is not to improve the running game by taking Vick away from the QB position, but to significantly improve your passing game.
Actually you made that argument, and many of us strongly disagreed with it.

Oh, and I guess I didn't realize that your running game was so good that it couldn't be improved.

You don't make your running game "significantly weaker" by taking Vick away from the QB position, you actually might help it some. Not only will you improve your atrocious pass offense, but giving Vick the ball as a RB or reverse man will certainly get ATL some yards, and definitely enough to make up for whatever he would have had as a QB.
Now if you're suggesting that another QB could improve their passing attack, I doubt many, if any, would disagree with you,

Now whether Atlanta would still be a threat to make a deep playoff run... or whether they could still run the ball well enough... is a separate manner.

For all of Vick's shortcomings as a passer, ATL would not make an NFC championship game under Schaub.

Schaub somehow has become the greatest QB to never win a start (0-2). His career numbers aren't that great 49.3 comp.%, 5 TD's and 4 ints. and a 68.8 QB rating. I have yet to understand the infatuation with him. He has the tools to be good but really hasn't done anything but play when Vick is hurt or in mop up time. Oh well, the Falcons will get some very nice picks when they trade him this off-season.

The Falcons are 3-17 from inside the redzone this year. To be fair four touchdowns can be credited to Vick during their redzone trips. Two passing TDs one rushing and one pick six (Vick's other interception was also returned for a TD, but called back for an illegal block).

Vick's combined rushing and passing stats 213.75 yds per game and 1 TD per game. There are 20 quarterbacks in the NFL that average more than 213.75 yards passing per game, and 17 quarterbacks that average more than 1 passing TD per game. So, Vick's rushing does not make up for his lack of ability to complete a pass. The fact that the running game can do as well as it is, in spite of the no threat passing game, is amazing.

Roddy White had a ball bounce off his hands that ends up a pick and Jenkins just dropped a perfect 60 yard bomb that hit him in stride and bounced off his hands. These guys suck, please get us some WR's that can catch the f'n ball.

I wonder what would happen if you swapped Indy's WR's with Atlanta's? I bet Manning would still get the job done for the most part and Vick would still struggle. IMO as long as Vick keeps his speed the Falcons will be a good team, but they will never win a Super Bowl.
